New LADY & THE TRAMP live-action CGI film

Well, this advance report doesn't exactly thrill me with hope:

Coming to Disney+ streaming (not theaters) on November 12th.

My initial reaction: Ehhhh... creepy robot dogs in a remake we didn't really need. Maybe I'm turning into grumpy Grandpa Simpson shaking his fist at clouds...

 

As my grandpappy, Ol' Reliable, used to say... I don't recollect if I've ever mentioned Ol' Reliable before.

 

Seen it... and it wasn't any good then, either.

 

For what was shown, doesn't show much promise to my eye. Just a bunch of cutsie, adorable dogs, running around in contrived scenes. Difficult storytelling.

Disney: Hello, Humane Shelter? Listen, we're shooting a movie, and if you let us have a couple of dogs, we'd be glad to go in halfsies with you on the adoption fee. All we want is the merchandising...
Shelter: Are you kidding us?! We just heard you try and pull the same thing with Sony this past week...fuggediboudit....
Disney: Hey, wait! You can keep all the other dogs...we just want to split you the rights for just the two-!

Disney: Hello? Hello?! Aww hell, Delores, can you ring up the Pixar department, maybe we can fake this...! At the very least, let's make sure they've got the time to whip up us a strand of spaghetti...

 

Vidiot, I'm 20 years of age and upon seeing this trailer, my initial reaction was basically ol' Abe shaking his fist at the clouds. One more reason to treasure the old "Special Edition" 2-DVD set of the original film I got as a kid. This trailer looks a bit unsettling and not like a nice, sweet film about cute dogs and their ways to learn tolerance and team spirit.

 

Disney +?!? Great!

Guarantee you, we won't be hearing "We Are Sia-meeese if You Pleeeease" in this movie.

 

It'll be interesting seeing how Di$ney handles the Mexican chihuahuas, Russian wolfhounds, English bulldogs, and Siamese cats with their iconic song in this lovely, improved PC version. And Tramp getting Lady pregnant.

 

Sure we will.

We'll just get a new Hip-Hop Dance version of it.

 

As far as the animation goes, it looked pretty good to me.

One thing that looked like absolute crap to me is that the proportions between Lady & The Tramp are totally wrong: he looks about 50% bigger than she does, which is not how they were in the original cartoon.

They will undoubtedly put out a 3D Blu-Ray version in the UK (not zone controlled, so it's watchable in the U.S.) like they did with the live-action version of Dumbo.

 

Why can't we get a live/CGI Fantasia?

 

This is a direct-to-Disney+ TV version, so I'm not convinced they'll spend the additional $10M for 3D conversion.

 

...Please don't give them that idea.
