What's the switch look like inside the 502? (I never popped a 502 open when I had them here)

Here's the suggested tube list in the manual:

It was a switch right next to the rectifier with a clearly labelled 6X4/6Z4 switch.

Edit: I guess the manual suggests its a drop-in replacement without need to fiddle with anything. The 502's manual definitely references the switch.

Guess you could always try the 6z4 to 6x4 socket adapter

    I don't see any switches....

I don't think the pin config is same on them is it?

I dunno. On one hand their previous 6z4 product had a switch, on the other hand the manual for this 6z4 product lists 6x4 as a common replacement as casually as 12AX7 = CV4004, so who knows?

Trying to find out a little further info on this....being that these are the very first few units into the US, I'm learning on the fly! lol

I'm going to guess that a tube socket adapter is needed, but hope to have further info soon to know for sure.

My 502 didn't have a switch. Just two spots where you could move the jumpers to complete the circuit for either 6z4 or 6x4. Similar to how you change configuration inside my Dynavector P75 mkii phono preamp. It is small, but clearly labeled. Taylor, it looks like you posted the 12ax7's. Is the 6z4 in the power supply chassis?

Oh, right. Every time I'm saying switch I mean jumper .

Tone Imports is going to get in touch with Line Magnetic and see what we can figure out. They are closed for New Years, so it may be a bit for an exact answer.

Anyone ever tried one of the socket adapters for 6z4 to 6x4? If so, do you remember how tall they are? (the adapter)

I haven't. But it looks like there is plenty of room in there. IIRC the 6x4 is just slightly taller than the 6z4. Should still be room in there for an adapter too if needed (I hope not!). OTOH, it is kind of cool there is no circuit board in there and everything appears to be P2P.

If the 6x4 is taller, it will be close..... I measure roughly 1/2" from the top of the current tube to the chassis side (maybe just a touch over 1/2").

I could be wrong about that. It has been a long time. But I do seem to remember putting the 6x4 into the 502 was a tight fit. It came very close to the lid, I think.

I just ordered a socket adapter. I'll let you guys know if it fits with a 6x4 (may be a week or two before the adapter gets here however).

Just got the LP33 and swapped out my Rogue Ares Magnum for this beauty. First impressions....very quiet!

Also, i'm a newb when it comes to "reviewing" audio stuff so bare with me here. More updates to come.

Had a few minutes to play around with one of the LP33's this morning. It is indeed a very quite phono stage. Straight out of the box it has good detail with maybe a slight touch of warmth....hard to tell for sure with it being brand new. So far, I like it quite a bit and believe it will likely be a great contender to other phono stages in the sub $3k price points.
