Here it is well into November and not a word from Music Direct about the impending release of any new Mo-Fi titles. No mention whatsoever even in their latest catalogue. A reputable audiophile dealer told me he heard that they're having real troubles at licensing titles. Anyone else know of anything?

    Oh, yeah. Reality comes a-calling...

Every time I speak to Music Direct it's "hey, send us a list of your favorites that you would like to see on Gold Disc."

When pressed further they intimate that maybe some lesser-known titles would be better for a new "first release" by the re-born MOFI...

Or, maybe they have no idea what the $#@*& they're doing and are in way over their heads.

Yeah - that could be it, huh?

Whatever it is...I'm not holding out much hope for any decent new product...sigh.

    Best,

    Ben

I'm hoping for a gold version of Bobby Goldsboro's "Honey" with "Watching Scotty Grow" as a bonus track. If not that at least Richard Harris' "A Tramp Shining"... I think that's the one with "MacArthur Park"....Yeeesh [IMG]

It's kind of unfortunate really. Why that name? I mean, what were they thinking? Or do they have a legitimate sales and production staff for such an enoromous undertaking? Seems like you have to be somebodyto make things happen, or to even have a chance.

I hope they do release some lesser known titles. You guys have got to be sick of listening to the same few titles that keep being released as "audiophile" discs. Let's see, we all need another version of Folk Singer.
We should all be so lucky to see some "new" audiophile quality releases.

The LPs out by 4 Men With Beards are really nice. I think it would be a better thing to do, to make a new name for oneself. Because you're MFSL, doesn't mean you're THE MFSL from days gone past, and in the 90's, even the passing collector figued THAT out. Duh.

The mastering is where it's at. Everyone's releasing 180g Lps and gold CDs (occasionally). I'd like to see some more vinyl done with some respect. So far, so good.

Isn't Aretha Franklin's "I Never Loved A Man..." 180 g Lp on that 4 Men w/Beards label? I just saw that for the first time the other day. Is it good quality?

Remember this is the same company making gloom and doom predictions about DCC so they can jack up the prices. I'd say some instant karma knocked them off their feet.

Last time I spoke to someone at Music Direct by phone, he said that they would be releasing something next year. Not what, or exactly when, but sometime in 2002. I would hope they got the MOFI electronics that had been shelved when they went belly up. That and some good ears to master whatever it is they master.

Actually Music Direct purchased everything from MFSL including the electronics. When I pressed them for info. I was told that they don't need a mastering engineer as "it's all done by the MFSL computer". Can you believe that load? [IMG]

Maybe the new Mo-Fi can specialize in gold CD's for deaf customers and save on hiring that uneccessary remastering engineer. Geez!!

Maybe they are planning to sell MFSL mp3s.

Lets see now, what's better.... the MFSL computer or Peter Mew? Computer or Mew? Any ideas out there?

I think computer - the "breath of death" should be automated. The computer can remaster much quicker than some slow old human being. Imagine that - the entire Beatles catalogue completed in a half day! Progress! Efficiency! Profits!

And maybe they'll do Donna Summer's version of McArthur Park, too.

.... I'm feeling ill now .... wheres the barf bag?

(wheres the puking Graemlin  )

Please! Don't say that too loudly. EMI may hear you and get ideas.

You skeptics are making feel like Music Direct is automating the process [IMG]
