I think the picture itself is pretty cool. The obnoxious extra sign the kid is holding is over the top and makes it look ugly.

Surprised the kid isn't wielding a sponge and a rusty spanner.

So I broke into the palace
With an axe and a stupid protest sign

At least he's consistent! I know people are saying he should grow up, but I like that he's still got controversial anti-establishment feelings after all this time. Most singers his age have mellowed, given up and lost their character. At least he's not recording reworked Smiths songs with the London Philharmonic.
I agree the sleeves aren't very classy compared to the Smiths ones, but I actually really liked the strange baby-grasping Years of Refusal cover. I thought the Swords sleeve looked like he moved at just the wrong time when the photographer pressed the button - he is certainly idiosyncratic, and that's what has made him such an interesting chap over the decades IMO.

Now that's something I'd be curious to hear (if not actually buy).

The kid's not even wielding the axe with conviction.

I cannot think of a worse album cover than Swords, it is truly horrendous. And from a man who took such great care with his record sleeves...

Actually, most of his solo album covers are pretty poor, especially when compared to the great sleeves he designed for the Smiths. A few of the solo covers are good but by and large, pretty terrible (as is this newest one...is it the first of his solo records that DOESN'T feature Mozzer himself on the cover? I think it is...)

It looks like he's about to have a dump in the woods.

It reminds me of those sleeves that show up in worst sleeve threads by weird religious groups. It is so bad it is almost good though.
Even the early solo Morrissey sleeves show very little art or imagination. I'm thinking of the original Viva Hate, Kill Uncle and Bona Drag - they're all strangely rubbish from the man who was so inspired with the Smiths art. He was a Glam Rock fan - you'd have thought he would have prioritised the artwork.

One of my favorite covers but one of my least favorite Morrissey albums.

I completely agree, there have been maybe three good Morrissey solo album covers.

I think the "Greatest Hits" one is beautiful. Years of Refusal is pretty nice too IMO, I like the lettering on that one (and it's associated singles).

I like Viva, Ringleaders, Refusal and Greatest Hits. The rest are dreadful.
Of course Morrissey had aged as we all have, his last 'young' looking sleeve was Maladjusted.
But even so there is simply no excuse for a sleeve as shockingly bad as Swords.

I like the Viva Hate, Kill Uncle, Your Arsenal, Vauxhall & I and Ringleader covers. I can't remember the Greatest Hits one.

I forgot about Vauxhall, Morrissey could look stunning in his younger days.

The sleeves for "That's How People..." and "All You Need Is Me" are great too.
