I don't like the music scene much these days, good new music seems to be hard to find, but I've just discovered some bands that really grabbed my attention. You guys may already be familiar with them so please excuse my excitement but it's great to fine some good new music! I'll post a video for each group.

The first band is Sister Sparrow and The Dirty Birds! The lead vocalist is just great!

The Next group is called Lake Street Dive, and they have an absolutely fantastic lead vocalist named Rachel Price!

The Third group is called Vintage Trouble and they have a great frontman! I may have missed it, but I haven't seen any of these fantastic bands mentioned so I just wanted to share.

lake street dive is beyond good. though i believe they have been discussed here a few times.

music scene isn't bad, it is just different. comparing it to the 60-70-80's may make it seem bad but it is just different. still great bands/artists coming up. got to watch coachella last week on the free stream and found several good bands i hadn't heard of before. though i must say david byrne out classed anyone i watched.
the distribution is different but as long as people pick up instruments and write and play there will be good and there will be bad music coming out of them. just have to adjust your way of locating the output.

If you live in the New England area they are playing at the Casino in CT for Free. My friends turned me on to them! Great band! She is awesome too!

Good bands like this encourage me to look even deeper than I have already been looking. It's the mainstream garbage that's shoved down your throat I mainly can't stand, you know the stuff that's really promoted!

I'd love to see the bands mentioned above get the really big time exposure! These are the type bands that should be performing at the music award shows! I'd watch them if that were the case!

Lots of really good modern bands and artists talked about in the best new albums of 2018 thread, and the previous years too, most won't necessarily align with your tastes, same for all of us, some hopelessly obscure and some very well known, everything is game, but it does show how much is happening beyond the mainstream these days, and a lot of it is great fun ... Best New Albums of 2018

BTW, that link goes to my latest post in the 2018 thread for the new Minami Deutsch record, not a very good example since they are kind of an obscure Japanese psych band, but typical of the wide ranging styles throughout the thread, and very good band too, especially if you are a fan of that 70s kosmische sound, they do channel bands like Neu! and Can, and are moving further into their own vision on this sophomore release ...

I've enjoyed Vintage Trouble and the two albums of theirs I have.

Not a fan of Mac Demarco’s ‘Salad Days’, but the two psych pop songs Treat Her Better and especially Chamber of Reflections are incredibly good.

Vintage Trouble are great. I've seen them live in concert opening up for The Who about 5 or 6 years ago. They've been on late night talk shows too. I also have both of their albums and they are due for another one. Don't know if they are working on a new one or not but they did release a single not too long ago (could've been a cover of someone else's.)

  13. As a 62 year old with young kids ranging from 33yrs down to 11yrs i have to say that there seems to be a solid and exciting music scene at the moment. My kids are often giving me new LPs of artists i have never heard of but are a real pleasure to listen to. Its stuff you wont hear on the radio but superb none the less IMO

I have that problem too. I will listen to new music but nothing really interests me. Every once in a great while something good will come on the radio and I'll buy the CD or go on Bandcamp/7Digital. That's how I found out about the band Bon Iver.

There are a couple of very good bands nowadays, imo. Bands that I look forward to whenever they release a new LP or single and try to go see their gigs whenever they play somewhere near where I live.

    Some of my favourites are:

    1. Radio Moscow (Blues Rock)

    2. The Black Angels (Psychedelic/Blues Rock)

The Black Angels - Black Isn't Black

    3. The Devil and The Almighty Blues (Blues Rock)

The Devil And The Almighty Blues - The Devil and the Almighty Blues (2015) (Full Album)

    4. The Mystery Lights (Garage/Blues Rock)

THE MYSTERY LIGHTS - TOO MANY GIRLS

    5. Allah-Las (Garage/Indie Rock, Surf Music)

    Allah-Las - Catamaran

I see you like classic R&B based bands. Have you heard of The Detroit Cobras or Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Check this out:

I've become a Lake Street Dive fanboy. I've seen them six times in the past couple years, and I'll be seeing them twice more before the end of the year.

The last time I saw them was June 2017. They had a new fifth member (keyboards and vocals) for about half their set, and had added some songs. I can't wait to hear where they are now musically.

Here's another new band for me. These guys are in the Allman Brothers, Govt Mule category.

Ironically, I saw both Sister Sparrow and Lake Street Dive for the first time - on the same day - three years ago. Had been out of town at a venue Lake Street was playing later that week, and the pre-concert sound featured them prominently. After I shazamed them for the 3rd time that evening, I decided I needed to check them out. Later that same week, they played a festival-type thing in my hometown, which Sister Sparrow also played. Both were great live bands.

I've wound up with two Sparrow albums since - one recommended and one not. And I've gradually acquired all of LSD's music (although their early, indie albums are much spottier).

    Good picks, maccafan!
