Have we collectively agreed, by the way, about Dutton-Vocalion as an "audiophile" label? Most classical labels are considered "audiophile" by default, but aside from the high praise for the sound on their quad SACD's, I never hear them mentioned in casual discussion.

    But...oh, those quad SACD's...! :)

Agreed, and the McCartney remasters are excellent as well.

@Gill-man , I think there are too many to mention, especially not knowing your taste in music.
You would be better off doing a search on specific titles you are interested in.

I would echo the Zeppelin remasters.

While some of them are controversial here, I don't think you can go wrong with the Presence remaster: It's near-universally praised here, and unlike some other Zep CDs, the 1980s version isn't great.

I think one of the best remasters I have are the remastered Police albums. I think these were remastered in 2007? The originals were true crap, incredibly anemic.

    :agree:

For me, these were a huge upgrade from the 80's domestic CD's.
A much bigger upgrade than the 2009 Beatles remasters (which I don't even consider an upgrade at all).

Are you talking about the Ludwig Gateway remasters? If so, I don't think you'll get too many likes, simply awful.

I think this is a fairly recent remaster?

Great sound, soundstage, detailed but not harsh or bright. Excellent dynamics.

Another one: The Sisters of Mercy, Floodland.

The 2006 remaster - which is still in print, although Amazon puts a 2010 release date on it - is excellent. Sounds notably better than the original 1987 CD - fuller-bodied with the bass finally as present as it should be.

It's nice and dynamic, with the original 10 tracks rating DR10 to 15 on the DR meter. (One of the two new bonus tracks is DR8, but everything else is DR10 or better.)

Compared to the original CD, 4 rate 2dB lower on the DR meter, but 4 others are only 1dB lower, and the other 2 tracks have the same DR. So probably just different (and better) EQ choices this time around, and little to no compression or limiting.

At any rate, the way to ID this remaster is that it has 12 tracks, whereas the original CD had only 10.

Haven't heard the OMD remaster but the original sounds exceptionally good. The 2016 Error in the System (in a weird jewel case) just arrived in the mail a half hour ago--I'll check in out on my drive home.

Yes the old Japan for US Junk is nice.
For the remaster I had to get used to the different (UK) track sequence. Plus it uses a shorter version of Tesla.

The 24-bit Iron Maiden remasters were supposed to be good. I bought Number of the Beast tonight and plan to give it a listen tomorrow. It's too bad you can't get a 24-bit remastered greatest hits compilation.

Really need to add the Japan mini-LP CD's of The Atlanta Rhythm Section.

NO limiting used, fully crankable and no other digital foolery.

Bought a few to check them out and liked them so well I bought the whole set.

    These were quite compressed.
