I'm sure many are aware of this upcoming release...

One wonders if the Talmy master tapes will be used or just the same ol' production masters. I wonder if we'll get the alternate versions of I'm A Boy and Magic Bus.

Also, can't help noticing that The Relay is missing. There seems to be room for this on disc two (if my math adds up). Guess we'll wait and see...

Great music. I wonder who'll be at the mastering helm. Please say it's not.........

    Here's what I think I know:

    - Talmy tracks will be in mono
    - original mixes will be used
    - Magic Bus will be in stereo
    - Astley will be doing the mastering
    - Substitute will be the US Atco mix
    - Young Man Blues will NOT be the House That Track Built version (instead I assume it will be the O&S version)

Of course, details get mixed up and things are known to change, but I think that's what's happening, kids.

No Luke, no! Not Mr. I can't hear anyways, so what does it matter.:(

Looks like I'll still have to be happy with my SH MCA's and MFSL's, for a while longer. (sigh)

The MoFi's? They never did any good Who issues. Tommy isn't too bad, but it's not great either. LAL and WN are more or less digital dubs of the remixed CDs. And Quad and WAY aren't very good.

As I understand Astley won't have any part with the My Generation reissue.

    Luke,

I think that you and I have been down this road before. Maybe the Mofi's aren't stellar, but I like them.

Can you show me a better sounding version of any of the 3 you mentioned available on cd? If so, I'll buy it!;)

The 1993 Erick Labson mastered Tommy is right up there with the MoFi.

The Polydor CDs of WAY and Quad are the way to go...

    Luke,

So you're sayin' the regular stock Polydors are the way to go? You are serious I assume....?

I've already found WAY, but no non-remastered Quad. I'll definately pick up this one and give it a listen.

I also just noticed that A&B Sound jusy jacked up the price of Steve's Who's Next. I wonder if recent sales volumes have inspired this?:D

FWIW, my US-pressed MCA Quad is identical to my Polydor copy...

    For Quad?

I only see the remix there. Of course, I like the remix, but that's not what we're talking about.

    Luke,

I wasn't sure if that was the MCA that you were refering to or another. Always better to ask than make the mistake of buying the wrong version.

You like the Universal re-master? Now I am confused!

    'Splain please!

The new disc isn't a remaster, it's a remix. I like the remix. Some people have said the MCA version is too harsh, and that the Japanese Polydor is better. I have yet to hear that version, so...

For the original mix, I believe the Polydor is the way to go. Although, some MCA copies mirrored the Polydor.

    Make sense?

For teh record, I've always enjoyed the MoFi WAY...it sounds, to me, more or less the same as the Polydor, but it's perhaps even easier to find.

I just won a copy of the pre-Remix Japanese Quad CD on YAJ, so I'll report on that when I get it.

Do you have the Mofi UD1 to compare it with?

Yeah. I don't necessarily agree with White Fang on all issues, but he's generally on the mark.

That said, he doesn't have the Japanese Polydor pre-remaster Quad...I'm pretty sure very few do. Unfortunately, I don't have anything to really compare it to, but I can tell whether it's good or bad.

I've been pretty fortunate insofar as Quad goes, though. I remember reading--way back when--on the Odds and Sods mailing list how the UK Quad remix was better than the US one. So when my dad went to Franch, I asked him to pick up a copy. He did, but it turned out to be the imported Japanese issue! Which, it seems, lots of people think is the best one now. Oy...

I noticed that "White Fang" doesn't comment on the MFSL (Japan) only the MFSL (USA).;) Yes, there is a difference Santa Clause.:D

Can anyone supply me a burn of the German Polydor? I'll compare it to my Quad UD1 and I'll report back honestly.

I'm pretty sure he's got the Japanese/UD I pressings of that stuff. He bought them the day they came out... "USA" is just because the discs were actually issued in the US, not Japan.

Yeah, but which one is better? ;)

    Dob,

Well after doing over a dozen comparisons between various MFSL UD1's and UD2's I can accurately state that the UD1 is better "everytime".;)
