Ay, something to look forward to...

  3. I would have gone with the title "Strange to Stranger," but at least he didn't title it "Stranger Danger."

I wonder if this new album is a "regular" album. He was supposed to have an album of songs with wife Edie Brickell some time ago, but that never seemed to materialize (did it?). Someone like @linclink oughta know. :help:

EDIT: ok, here's a new tune:

He rarely, if ever, disappoints. So I'm definitely looking forward to the new album.

Edie Brickell been busy with Steve Martin the past few years putting in 2 albums, a tour and writing a broadway musical. That's probably a lot of work and time consuming.

Really bummed that I'm out of town and missing this tour when it comes through Dallas, especially at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. What a great venue.

I seem to miss Simon every time he comes through town! But here's one album sold!

The Mann in Philadelphia will be a great spot to see Paul Simon. Both venue and performer are favorites of mine but it's Beatles night at my work, too fun and too lucrative to miss!

    Damn

I'm bummed he's going to Dallas and Austin, but not Houston. But I have seen him 3 times (once with Garfunkel) so I can't complain too much.

  13. I don't know what's ever happened to the (I assume finished) long touted album of duets between Paul & Edie. I'm sure looking forward to it, as I adore when they sing together!!!

Here's another very new & recent Paul Simon track other than the recently premiered "Wristband"... the theme song to the new Louis C.K. show "Horace & Pete"...don't know if this new one will be on the new album or not...

  14. On his official page there are actually 4 more dates, still listed as "To Be Determined" & they are May 1st, June 18th, June 27th & June 28th. And... the Casino show in Thackerville, OK on 5/17 is already sold out (don't know how...file under "go figure"...rough break for Thackervillians ;) )

There is an open date on June 27th for a headliner act for the Rochester Jazz Fest (in very nearby to me Rochester, NY), so I'm really hoping for that! If not, I'll make at least the Toronto show on the 21st.

Although he is about as fave an artist as I have, I think budget constraints combined with not great variation in set lists will most likely keep me down to one show this tour. He did vary 4 (sometimes more, rarely less) or so songs a show on the 2011 tour, which I caught 5 times (2 in Toronto & Philly & one in NYC at Webster Hall which gave us the great "Live In New York City" double live CD & DVD).. just saw one show on the tour with Sting & probably just one for this tour too I'm guessing.

  15. Thanks for starting this thread BTW! He's performed a song or two over the last couple years, at various interview things "The Riverbank" is one & I know there's recordings floating about out there of it...and I think at least one other that hasn't shown up elsewhere... This facebook group has the most stuff like that & all the up to date info etc.- Log into Facebook | Facebook »

There also this bit about original music he did for this play...don't know if any of it shows up on the new album...

This is so cool! I loved Paul Simon's last album So Beautiful or So What, and if the new album is anything like the last one I will be so pumped.

Kind of bummed he isn't coming closer... this year seems to be the year I'm finally crossing a lot of bucket list acts off (Madonna and Bruce already, planning on Pearl Jam in April) and knowing Paul's age, we don't know how many more tours he has

  18. I know, yet he's playing crap ass Oklahoma. Boooooooo! Jk :)

But Austin twice means I should probably be able to make the drive from Houston. It's not that far.

I'm surprised people aren't jumping all over this news.

I'm disappointed at the timing of his performance in Portland, as it's on a day that I'm unlikely to be able to make, in the middle of a work-week (I'm almost always traveling during the week). Even worse, that's the Wednesday before I'm going on a week-long vacation, so there's an expectation that I will be more fully available for work the week prior to being unavailable. There is a slim chance I might be able to arrange to be home that week, but I won't know until it gets closer, and ticket prices are likely too high (I'm guessing nearly $100/seat?) to take a chance on a buying a couple of tickets that may not be used.

EDIT: OMG. Best tickets are $441 plus fees. Cheapest are over $100. Too rich for me. I always forget how expensive "superstar" concert tickets have gotten. Over the weekend I was hesitating pulling the trigger on a $15 ticket for an "indie rock" performer who has a 20+ year career, and whom I haven't seen perform since the late 90s. Kind of shocking to go see how much Paul Simon tickets cost ... and realize they're as much as 29 *TIMES* as expensive. Yikes. I'm not saying he can't charge whatever he wants; hell, when you're 74 years old you've got to make it worth your while to embark on a national tour! I'm just bummed that it's way out of my league. :-(

I also loved that album, so I am really looking forward to this. I couldn't believe that 'So Beautiful' was ignored by most of the 'album of the year' lists; I thought that it was a wonderful album, especially the very clever 'The Afterlife' and the beautiful 'Dazzling Blue' and 'Rewrite'.

This is great news. I hope that the material is as strong as 'So Beautiful', and I personally would prefer it if this is a solo effort, not a duet album.

That image link you shared above is blocked at the office where I'm working today.

I used the first (non-advertisement) link that popped up in a search for Paul Simon tickets in Portland. I think that Bing presented me with a ticket reseller site. Whew!
paul simon portland may tickets - Bing »

After going directly to the concert hall website, and branching out for tickets from there (it funneled me through Ticketmaster briefly, then on to a "partner site"), I see they're much more reasonably priced at $60-130/ticket.

Still not sure I can afford to take a nearly $300 (including fees, etc.) chance on a pair of tickets that I may not be able to use....

    Craig.
