I'm a huge R.E.M fan but I generally find their live stuff dull to watch, will pass on this.

 

Until the DVD collection is released, I bought some new toys to occupy my time:

 

Weird thing: I'm all but 100% certain that "At My Most Beautiful" was included in the initial Storytellers broadcast. I vividly remember my sister laughing derisively at Mills' backing vocals. (She's not a Beach Boys fan.)

There's some cool stuff on here for sure, but since the doc will be shown on Palladia and there's nothing really vintage here that hasn't already been seen, I may wait a few months until the price falls by about 50%.

That said... give me '86/'87 shows, name your price, and sign me up.

 

I may go that route as well, although I'm tempted to pay the hundred bucks up front.

 

As am I...if I had it currently to spare. It'd be nice if a price drop happened soon, but I can't shake the feeling a simple Blu-ray would have been cheaper, had less discs while able to hold more content (since it's mostly broadcast SD) and have this new docu in HD. Still its a great new treasure trove to replace tapes from the day and youtube.

Just really hoping there will be a lossless PCM option like other R.E.M. DVDs, but with all this content probably not.

THISTHISTHIS! Tired of crappy tapes! Heck, while we're at it, why not the footage from the '92 Greenpeace show which was filmed apparently.

Or better yet, how 'bouts just a simple vault series for us mad fans who can't stop? Those who are psyched for any unreleased material, but then wind up mumbling "why was so and so not released..."

 

I think I said this before, but, although I have 80% of this material on YouTube or torrent downloads already, having it in DVD quality will be a huge quality upgrade that's well worth the price. For me, anyway.

I'm 99% sure that Mike Mills floated the possibility of a live Bootleg Series in some interview with him I read since the break-up. At the rate they're putting out product - the Unplugged vinyl and CD, this DVD set, and the upcoming 7" singles box - I wouldn't be surprised at all if they start putting out live shows. Then there's the ongoing 25th anniversary re-issue program that will hit Out of Time and Automatic in the next two years.

 

They've slashed the price on amazon.co.uk to 35 GBP or so... hopefully, the U.S. site will follow suit shortly. Fingers crossed...

 

Now that IS value for money, 6 discs for 35 quid is quite reasonable. (I was going to buy this no matter what!)

I thought "Perfect Circle" was also one of the highlights of the 1991 Unplugged show.

 

I fully agree. Whenever they performed that song it was special.
