New Ray Davies Album 'Americana' Out April 21 2017

Agree I was so surprised. I have every jayhawks album and they all sound great but the last Peter Buck produced album sounds awful.

Picked up the CD yesterday.
Absolutely thrilled with it.
Definitely Ray's best solo album.
I was surprised that it is so roots and more acoustic.
Lyrically strong, his voice sounds great.
Really pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, I love it also. I have to listen to Workingman's Cafe a few times again to be sure, but at this point Americana might be my favorite solo release by Ray.
It doesn't matter though because they are both great.

Ray is one of the few guys who sounds the same vocally to me as he always has, which is a great thing in my book.

 

this is a really great album. you can tell ray spent a lot of time on this. my guess he worked on these songs and the supposed follow up for probably 5+ years

 

There appears to be a bit of confusion about the follow up. In a recent interview, Ray seemed to imply that the follow up may be part of an Americana deluxe edition, rather than a stand alone release.

 

well that makes no sense. is it just an EP worth of tunes or something?

 

My understanding is that Ray recorded about 30 tracks with The Jayhawks.

I was late to pick this up, but sure glad I did. I've listened to it twice and really love it. Going to be one of the best releases in 2017!

My uneducated, out of the loop guess is that you will see an Americana vol. 2 available as an individual release along with a box set containing both volumes 1 and 2 along with some extra goodies not available on either individual release.

Just read an article that said Ray is working on part 3 of the Americana trilogy!!? Anyone know anything about this being a trilogy? I had heard he was doing a part 2 but a trilogy is even better.
