I've just heard of this show, based on the reviews. Looks to be a good one!

The original UK version is excellent. When I saw the trailer, I thought William H Macy was an odd choice to play Frank Gallagher but hopefully it will all work out.

I've giving this thread a bump because the pilot the other night was very good indeed. While I love the UK version it was a treat not to have to scan back & try to figure out what the last line just said was.

I watched this because I like Macy and the beautiful Rossum, but this show was wretched. Terrible stuff. Are we supposed to care about any of these people? In real life, people who live like this are beyond our ability to relate to, as opposed to the "specially-bonded-but-unorthodox family" sham they tried to pull with this show. It's only one episode but......blech.

I watched maybe the first five episodes, but then quit. It was okay, but I just couldn't really pull for the family of scammer deadbeats. Making jokes about how one of the kids likes to torture animals didn't go over too well with me either.

I did like Joan Cusack's character, though.

(to be clear, I'm referring only to the US version on Showtime, never saw any of the UK original)

I'm watching this nightly `on demand' and it gets
better with every episode.....Macy is terrific but I
find his character too smart and funny to be a hope-
less drunk (I mean, a Houndog Taylor t-shirt?!). The
two eldest boys are the best characters in the show
as is the dude from `Reba'.
Having said that, it's the nudity that's keeping me
watching - I couldn't believe that bathroom scene
between Macy and Joan Cusack's daughter(!) - how
old is that actress?! She must be at least 18 to
    display her breasts like that!

A friend lent me DVDs of this show and I've watched a couple and couldn't help but think what kind of parent would let their child be in it. I'm no prude but it really made me uncomfortable.

I like it. My wife LOVES it!
But, how long until things get 'serious', or they have that 'very special' episode, where things aren't fun anymore.
I see the show has ben on in the UK for like 9 years! Has there ever been an episode where the comedy stops??

PS. I'm reminded of when "Roseanne" was first aired, and how they used to say, it was showing a 'white-trash' family, and how shocking it was. Of course, this one takes it to the next level!

Since this thread kinda died, I found out myself:
"The Luck You Got" by The High Strung.
Would've never guessed the singer was a guy!

I love it. Maybe you have to grow up really poor to appreciate some of the "creative" ways to survive in a world designed for people with more money?

Great cast, intelligently written and I think it continues to improve. Watched the Season 3 premiere the other night and it was a blast.

So far, so good..... I feared Jimmy was being 'watched' by the government at first, but I think 'the Gallaghars' could take down the Brazillian mob, if they wanted to!

The "Lip" character is a bit too cool IMO. 4.6 grade average, he knows everything about everything, street smart, etc. The new season, so far, continues with that trend. I still find the show captivating, though.

A question to all who've seen the UK version: Have they strayed from the UK's plots yet, or have the originals done these things before?

I haven't seen the UK version, but in the first season of the show the writing credits reference which episode(s) from the UK series they are based on. Those notices disappeared about halfway through the season so I'm assuming they've struck out on their own path.

My son's 13-year old (home-schooled) buddy just got a 3-episode part on this show. I still think the show's garbage though; shame on Rossum (no pun intended).
