Turner Classics is showing two new 60 minute documentaries on The Adventures of Robin Hood and Yankee Doodle Dandy tonite, at 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM EST, respectively. Here's the description of the ARH piece:
This was probably one of the best 'making-of' documentaries I've seen in awhile. Lots of home movie footage from the set and interesting tales about the director(s), Korngold, and all the cast members. They apparently used the upgraded image in the documentary because you could really see the difference from the actual movie which aired immediately before. Pity they didn't manage to get Olivia de Havilland to sit down for an interview. With all the greats passing it's a wonder she's still with us. At the Oscars, March 23, 2003 Here's an interview with her from earlier this year.
I believe the TCM documentaries are included on the recently released 2-disc DVDs of Adventures of Robin Hood and Yankee Doodle Dandy. ...Robin Hood also has a documentary on Technicolor. Yankee Doodle Dandy has "James Cagney: Top of the World" and "John Travolta remembers Jimmy Cagney" featurettes. They both have lots fo other supplemental stuff, too. Regards,
