Esoteric Antenna (UK), which released 'State' and that great BBC boxed set, confirms that TR has delivered the record, and they like it.

    There's also this from Facebook:

I just randomly sang out the word "progesterone" on a new Todd Rundgren song. And he's keeping it. It's a really good song, by the way.

Very cool indeed! Any idea the style? Seeing as how we're dealing with Todd, it could be anything.

Seriously, who other than Todd would use "progesterone" in a pop tune?

    As did I.

Liars was one of the best albums every produced by an artist in his 4th decade of making music. Most of his peers are content to keep doing the same music for the same people until they drop, but not Todd. He explores new styles, and pushes himself and his audience.

You'll have to wait a while longer. Early reviews have it continuing in the direction of State and Liars.

The Japanese SHM-CD will have a bonus track.

As spotty as I've found Todd's new music to be over the last 25 or so years, I'll always listen to anything he puts out.

Please God, I hope this album wasn't recorded on Todd's laptop ... again.

Any word on who is in the band for this tour?

I'm pretty sure that anything he does for the foreseeable future will be. One of the disadvantages of living in Paradise overlooking the Pacific Ocean is that the salt air is very hard on electronics. He started down the laptop path when he went to record an album on his old ProTools system, and couldn't get it to boot up. But his laptop worked.
No idea, but his wife Michele Tweeted out this casting call:

Background Singers: looking for all types but Hawaiian or Polynesian look is a plus, must be 21 to perform in certain venues. 2 Female background singers to accompany Artist Todd Rundgren in a high energy show. Must have a good vocal range and be able to harmonize well. Must be able to dance short choreographed pieces. Hula is a plus but not required. An already existing Duo is also a plus. If part of a duo, please send submission performance together. Must have experience in background singing and some dance experience. Must be an excellent singer with a good vocal range and be able to follow choreography.

Well, what I really meant was I hope Todd doesn't rely on the gimmicky sounds and loops, etc. that have marred his most recent studio albums, IMO.

I much prefer "the human element" in Todd's recordings, which he's pretty much eschewed over the last decade or so.

I'd be in heaven if he put out a solo album that really grabbed me, song-wise. It's been a long time but, like I said, he'll always have my ear.

Jeff Lynne's daughter Laura is on the album as a background singer, from my understanding. She also sang backup on some of the ELO remakes that Jeff did.

I don't see it as an either/or. I think Todd moved into a more Electronica/Dance direction simply because he was getting some attention and respect from that quarter, which he had not been getting from the Rock establishment, which had seemingly relegated him to the "oldies" circuit. He would tour an album of Bossa Nova, and the freaking radio ad would feature Hello It's Me!

The sounds on Liars and State were the same type he had been coaxing out of primitive synths like the EMS Putney back on the Todd album - which were sampled by people like Hot Chip. He just grabbed them when they came back around.

It also occurs to me that maybe Todd just likes dance music. His ex girlfriend Karen is a dancer, and he met his wife Michele when she was a dancer for the Tubes.

Once again, how much of a joke is it that Todd isn't in the RnR Hall of Fame? Making a decision like that is akin to walking around with a sign taped to your back saying "I Don't Know Anything About Music".
