The other night while rewatching "The Grateful Dead Movie"
my wife quizzed me on how those fans could dance to "Sugar
Magnolia". I pointed out that on that tour the guys were not
pulling Chuck Berry punches ( CB rhythm's all over the place
in that film – THAT's when The Dead shine, to me ). But I
wonder – how does one "boogie" to "Nick's Boogie"? Curious.

I hear ya – rock venues should be DANCE halls ... but I suppose
the gawkers and stage rushers ruined THAT way back in The '50s.
Those punks ruined it for the rest of us.

Got row A loge for 4/20. Do they use any visual effects or projections?

I avoid doing that for shows I am going to see as it lessens the impact of seeing it live.

Yes, there are psychedelic projections and liquid slides.

That's really interesting. I thought early Pink Floyd was more of a European concern: all those soundtracks to art-house films...

It doesn't surprise me that Nick Mason would not venture out on his own with the PF music. I remember him when I saw Pink Floyd in the late 1960's, he was a force to be reckoned with although he was in the background. His drumming style added a lot to their sound in my opinion as did Rick Wright. Barrett, Waters, and Gilmour received a lot of the attention, but when they all went solo, not much of their music sounded like Pink Floyd to me.

His guitar playing is very good. His singing is OK except when he tackles David's songs, which do sound a bit wrong to me.

I just read "box sets" and wondered. Probably reading too much Superdeluxeedition.com!

Also, Masonic sounds like the appropriate venue, if only for its name ;)

As far as I can make out Floyd didn’t play Orpheum. They played at a venue called the “Music Hall” which is now the Wang Theatre.
It was the “Boston Music Hall” that became the Orpheum.
If you know any different and can prove me wrong I’d be grateful to know.

That's crazy. I think I messed up. But the prices are worse.

Oh well, got mine so I'm good. Saw a good vid on a career
retrospective from 2007, just after Barrett died and before
Rick passed, that interviewed all, had vid I've not seen and
was balanced. Seems Rick was keen to perform more Floyd
so I guess the following year was when he got bad news.

It's too bad the band neglected its older catalogue ... there
was a lot of interesting, formative stuff going on there. It's
not to everyone's cup o' tea, but it clearly turns up in later
works as "The Wall". Sound effects, the acoustic guitar,
yeah ... some parts of "The Wall" echo "Ummagumma".
I believe in mixing it up ... some of the stuff from that period
would've gelled nicely with "The Wall" and "The Division Bell".

Who's on guitar? Hopefully he/she can do the "Syd strum" where needed, as well as the
    smoother Gilmour flourishes.

Bah, that shows what I get for trusting Wikipedia. Looks like you're right. Well, I'm still happy to be seeing this show! At least the Orpheum is an easy walk from where Nick actually played in '71.

And boring. I was hoping David Fricke would ask Nick Mason to shed some light on how he chose the musicians in the band, in particular someone like Gary Kemp.

Too much focus on drama not music. Most of us know
the Syd story. What would've been great is less on his
demise and more of what made that early lineup tick.
Obviously a lot of the early days were fun before the
illness set in ( clearly he was ill – not just a case of
artist fatigue or whatever we choose to call it ). Further,
why this set of music? Why does Nick want to go there?

So many ways we could've gotten new information.

Hi guys... I play guitar in the band.
This interview was conducted 3 months before Nick, Guy and I had our initial meeting about putting a band together so there was nothing David Fricke could ask about the band.

As far as to why we are tackling this particular era it has been documented in various UK publications but the short story is that the original premise that Nick should get out and play again and play 1967-1972 material was mine.
I realised that there are plenty of bands (not to mention David and Roger) ignoring the epoch of the Floyd and as Guy has pointed out it is something that Nick can own as the other 2 guys largely ignore it.

Having spent a lot of time talking about playing and not doing much of it Nick felt the idea came at the right time.

We had a meeting in which we thought Gary and Dom would be perfect to join us and here we are!

Welcome! Great seeing you here. I should have gone when you played in Düsseldorf. Syd's Floyd is my favourite PF era. My friend who's a Floyd fanatic but prefers Wall and later stuff was amazed after seeing you live.
