Nicolas Cage.....why does a talented actor, who had a promising start end up acting in B movies.

I totally understand that people got to make a living, that Cage has made some really bad financial decisions over the past decades - and that apparently he is a difficult and troubled guy with issues....but still, you would think he had a better manager who would make good roles happen. I just think he had more potential - compared to other actors of his generation. And now that he has a 'not so cool ' reputation - well even for an interesting TV show. We started watching James Spader in Blacklist - and he is great in my opinion. So Cage could do something like that and get back on track - instead of doing some really crappy movies that border in Sharknado and the likes....I wish someone would invite him to play a major role in a movie like 'The Wrestler' or 'Birdman'....Certainly did a lot for Mickey Rourke and Michael Keaton.

He was excellent in The Family Man and Leaving Las Vegas. Also enjoyed Honeymoon In Vegas and The Rock. Plus, as an Elvis fan he obtained the ultimate collectible.

i recently saw a few newer Nicolas Cage films and thought they were absolutely terrible!
glad I found this thread, because I just searched to see if I was the only one.
I love some of his earlier films, some are my favourites, but wow, has he fallen off the perch.
what a shame! a great actor making really crappy movies.
someone (or himself) really needs to get back into making real movies again. geeez!

The last thing I liked Nick Cage in was The Rock.

the last film I saw of his I thought was pretty good was 'trespass' from 2011.
it was good, but not 'fantastic'. I love his 'national treasure' films and of course
'The Rock', 'Con Air', 'Gone in 60 seconds'.....
but it's like, damn! when will the next great film come?
I know actors have rough spots and crappy scripts, budgets etc etc
    but geeeez!

He's been here twice in Mobile working on films and it's pretty remarkable how accessible he's been while out and about. Lots of pictures on Facebook with people and by all accounts is approachable and friendly. He's also been to the children's hospital to visit with patients, which is more than can be said for some of the other actors who've been in town.

Maybe he just enjoys acting in non-demanding roles? B-movie actor certainly sounds more fun than any real job I've ever heard about

Did he butt heads with the Coens when making "Raising Arizona"? I'd like to see them work together again.

I'm still convinced that he's one role away from a comeback. He needs his "Birdman".

I could be wrong but didn't the slide begin with Captain Corelli's Mandolin?

Participation in a high profile film of a best-seller which is then slated can be a career-killer.

Community had a class about this in Season 5:
    Nicolas Cage: Good or Bad?

He's an eccentric weirdo with big problems - that can make an actor very interesting.

He's been great films:Valley girl, Racing with the Moon, Raising Arizona, Moonstruck, Wild at Heart, Honeymoon in Vegas, leaving Las Vegas, bringing Out The Dead, Lord of War, Adaptation

Enjoyable but not good: Con Air, The Rock, Face/Off, National Treasure, The Weather Man,

AWFUL films: Vampires Kiss, Snake Eyes, 8MM, Ghost Rider, The Wicker Man, drive Angry

    Plus about 200 more.
