I just wanted to know what your favourite Nina Simone album is? And maybe even your favourite live album?

    Here's mine:

    Live: Montreux 1976(esp. "Stars/Feelings")

Studio: 'Nuff Said!(I love "Why (The King Of Love Is Dead).

I only own a few Nina Simone albums so I'm probably not as qualified to comment as some here. But I do absolutely love the Speaker's Corner "Nina Simone Sings the Blues". It's not a live album, but the sound quality is top notch and I find the music incredibly compelling.

I have a couple good compilations. My favorite tunes are Young Gifted And Black, and Mississippi Goddamn!

"Sings the Blues" is the best album of hers I've heard yet. It's really raw and powerful. Her 60's Philips albums are pretty good too.

    hard question!

Interesting you picked Nuff Said, because out of her phenomenal run of albums from '65-'69 (I Put a Spell on You, Pastel Blues, Let It All Out, Wild Is the Wind, High Priestess of Soul, Sings the Blues, Silk & Soul, Nuff Said, and Nina Simone and Piano) I like it the least.

It should have been her greatest album but the heavy editing, particularly of Why? (The King Of Love Is Dead), and the 3 fake live tracks ruin it for me.

I'd go with "After Hours". A well-selected and comprehensive compilation with unforgettable performances. Hard to pick one though, such an amazing artist!

I'm sure I have the unedited version of Why! It's 12 minutes long! The edited version if like 5 minutes?

I would say Nina Simone: Songs To Sing! It's quite comprehensive! : )

There are tons and tons of Simone comps out there, and even though some of them are actually pretty good, she's one I'd want to go the album route with.

Sings the Blues is likely my favourite studio album, but it was in concert where she really worked her magic. My favourite live album? I honestly don't know and don't think I want to.

This is an excellent compilation, but it covers just one part of her career:

    My favourite!

I've attempted to listen to some others but have found them too commercial for my taste. I must have just chosen the wrong ones. :D

All included on the Complete RCA Albums Collection. It's collects all the RCA stuff - original albums, singles and the various outtakes previously only on collections and box set. Very much recommended.

The jury is really out on this one. The artist did not like it and it recently made MOJO's "don't buy" list. But lots of people seem to like it.

I am one of those people who really like it. Especially the title cover of Randy Newman's Baltimore. Not her greatest, but a nice album.
