On tour, the band only brings the Curb comp, the 3 Circle albums, and Speed of Life on tour for CD and they do bring the 180g vinyl of the first Circle on tour as well.

This is one of THE great country-rock albums ever and it does need to be in your collection.

Ended up being the 1986 US Warner Twenty Years of Dirt Brad, glad it was still there :)
    SQ is top notch :righton:

Yes, 20 Years of Dirt is a top notch sounding compilation as well. If you wish to have a few additional songs early on, go for the Curb comp or the EMI America comp, for the rest of the later hits, go for More Great Dirt. For even more early recordings than what's on 20 Years of Dirt and the Curb comp, go for Dirt, Silver and Gold. Twenty Years of Dirt is a great compromise for those who want a decent compilation spanning the bulk of their hit making years without getting all of the comps and albums.

I played them constantly back in the early to mid-seventies. I just never bought their catalog on CD, except Will The Circle Be Unbroken. A truly great band that was groundbreaking in their musical explorations. I'm still a fan.

Which means Twenty Years of Dirt ended up bringing that collection forward for you, then go for More Great Dirt.

The 24/96 will be for home enjoyment, been a few years since hearing these songs, what a great mix of tunes, just a flat out fun band!

For the 16/44, buy the BGO CDs, for 24/96, needle drop your vinyl.

What is the name of the EMI America comp you refer to here? I see "20 Years Of Dirt" on Rhino Flashback, which I assume is a straight re-issue of the original CD, and I see the Curb Records "Greatest Hits" from 1990.

Also, how are the BGO 2-fer's, specifcally the one for "The Dirt Band/An American Dream".

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Best of: Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Amazon.com Music » The Curb Records Greatest Hits does have the bulk of this comp but you do get a few more tracks on "Best of" on EMI America.

I don't have any of the twofers but many do like them.

BTW, 20 Years of Dirt has never gone out of print so Rhino Flashback is simply a repricing in this case.

A few years ago, there was a self-released live CD they used to sell, which was housed in a cardboard jacket and featured modern performances of the current post-Ibby lineup. It's a shame Ibby pulled a Bill Wyman and left NGDB, but that live EP had great sound and the reflected the current energy of the group.

I did see that live EP as well.

  21. One of the great very, very early country rock groups!

    Fun Facts:

Comedian Steve Martin was an early musician member, as was a very young Jackson Browne.

First American Band to tour the Soviet Union

Performed at the 1984 LA Olympics

Performed at the first Farm Aid Concert

I reccomend this album for those looking to start listening to one of their original albums.
    Great from start to finish.

Some of the most elaborate LP packages I can remember . . . I was happy to see the reissue of Dirt Silver & Gold, since that was how I got to know the band.

I can confirm what others have reported: that the original fatboy Will The Circle Be Unbroken is better than the remaster. In this particular case, the remaster isn't horrible but the original is just terrific.

Plus so many of their albums are concept albums or are very close to being concept albums including Uncle Charlie and His Dog Teddy.

The Amazon-exclusive CD/DVD of the new NGDB & Friends' CELEBRATING 50 YEARS live album is very good.
