    Love box sets.
But ...where do you store them next to Lp rack or separate shelves ?

I must admit I'm a bit addicted. Sometimes I'll grab one by a band I've barely heard (Blue Oyster Cult, Golden Earring) and for the price you can't go wrong...if I don't like it I quickly hit up Ebay and pass it onto someone who'll enjoy it (Alex Harvey)

My database claims I have 171, but it must be said that I have only filed as box sets those that are too big in size to go with regular CDs.

Way, way too many and as space for vinyl and cd's is getting perilously close to a premium; will have to be very choosy so it does not turn into either an episode of hoarders or my wife killing me first! Also we have got a 4 month old puppy now, and have had to take some not on shelves up to store in my mother's huge attic so the dog does not chew them while she is teething. JUst ordered the Husker Du and Dylan ones coming out in November so will need to restrain myself after that. Like many on here, a lot are rarely played like The Beach Boys Smile which was nice but with that huge box took up the space of about 15 standard lp's! I do ask myself why i have things like Keith Jarrett's Sun Bear Concerts on both vinyl and cd???!!! I don't think i have managed to get through that in its entirety on either format despite having it for years. Had the vinyl for aeons then saw the cd box cheap 2nd hand and bought it too. Crazy!.

Cannot imagine not having a single boxed set; but in some ways that might be a healthy approach as you are focussed on the official releases and the cream of an artists output to listen to. However, then you think that doesn't really work for someone like Dylan who left a huge amount of great material in the can until the boxed set era came in and it got released.

Not a one of 'em in my house.
Buying albums piecemeal makes me feel like I'm spending less money.
And I suppose box sets always just seemed gimmicky to me. I figured they were for people less obsessive than myself. Judging by the responses here I was quite wrong.
What can I say, I've got a jewel case fetish.

What's unnecessarily large about The Beatles mono box? The box has to be that size to hold all the records and the book.

It's literally like a millimeter too tall to fit in IKEA shelves. ONE MILLIMETER. It's like they knew half their buyers use those for vinyl storage and wanted to have fun with them.

My favorite vinyl box set packaging is the David Bowie Five Years box, I can store it in it's box, but open with the LP spines facing outward along with all my other LP's, and I don't have to remove the whole box just to play one.

What a pain! I'd find that annoying as there is a bit of space at the top. I still have to get the whole box out to play one, which to be honest means I often just play my old copies.

I wouldn't have minded the Bowie boxes but already have all the albums in near perfect condition, but they do look very nice.

I copped the Dylan SACD box set for $80. That was pretty awesome. And the War box set. Also found The Great History of the Rolling Stones. A Japanese pressing that is in mint condition (well, the box has patina).

My mono box LP's are just on the shelf like regular albums, and the box is in storage, collecting dust.

Five Years was the only Bowie box I've bought...too much repetition in the other two to justify the cost, so I'm just picking up the studio albums individually. I'd love vintage copies, but even before he passed, used Bowie vinyl in excellent condition was absurdly expensive.

(Well done) box sets are just too fun and luxurious to pass up in many cases. Of course, funds is a legitimate problem. You can only pick and choose. Yet boxes like the new Sgt Pepper 50th is probably the most fun and well-done set I own! I now can't imagine not having it (the remix and the set itself).

Then there are things like Elvis Presley's "The King Of Rock And Roll" 50's Masters box, or the "That's The Way It Is" box.

Don't get me wrong. I buy mostly CD's or LP's. And I'm not one to buy any and every box set sight unseen. But there are indeed some boxes that are simply...indispensable...in my opinion.

It's an odd one that, because not too long ago Bowie vinyl was very cheap and common. I used to leave them at car boot sales and charity shops! That's unthinkable now.

I have two standard bookcases 28 inches wide with one stacked on top of the other. They have 3 shelves each and that holds 134 box sets with only a few on the top shelf because that's hard to reach. No problem at all.
