I lent some Hendrix records to a friend and his cat peed on them!:realmad: No, I am not joking. This is why I never lend out any type of media anymore.

Got PB&J on my dads copy of Dark Side of the Moon. To his credit he still let me use his Hi-Fi (what they called it back then) and play his albums.

I solve this problem by not having friends. Works great!

I have enough trouble trying to keep from scratching my records, I sure don't need others helping the cause.

Mint copy of MFSL Led Zep II, and I scratched a section of Heartbreaker, possibly one minute's worth. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

7th grade, 1970. Lent my first, original copy of Tommy to a school friend. It came back with a long vertical scratch across side two (ruined my favorite song on the album, Cousin Kevin). I questioned the "friend" and, of course, he had "no idea" how this happened. That was the first and last time I loaned out any of my records.

I cringe everytime I think of this. My old Dual 505 turntable had a wonky lid mechanism that often moved down an inch after it was first opened.
I used to be very good at removing my Lp from the platter and flipping it over in one motion to place it back on the platter.
Just finished playing side 1 of my Alice Cooper Lp. I open the dust cover, remove the Lp and flip it over to play side 2 when the dust cover moves down and I catch the entire side 2 on the corner of the cover.
You haven't seen a scratch like this. Side 2 unplayable! Side 1 got a lot of spins ha! ha!

  17. It's a good idea to keep the dust cover down while playing records.

Although I have indeed accidentally damaged my own stuff, my attitude toward the question of lending to a friend can be summed up in one anecdote: in the 11th grade a friend of mine offered to give (not lend, give) me a record of his I wanted, in exchange for the right to borrow one of mine for a week. I said no.

  20. I own up to scratching the copy of "Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy" that had been given me as a Christmas present. "Anyway Anyhow, Anywhere" got the worst of it. I can't remember the circumstances. I was probably enjoying a refreshing adult beverage at the time. It was an American Decca rainbow label copy that I liked the look and sound of very much. Eventually I broke down and bought a replacement - MCA with a vanilla label. It just didn't sound the same and the label was boring.

Definitely not. Even when I had a roommate, I never let her borrow my records
