A lovely movie, oft overlooked and dissed. Some really nice scenes and shots in this. And yes, pizza IS in the oven. If time permits Ghost Of Frankenstein will follow.

Love all these. James Whale's earlier movies were amazing. If you don't have them already, get the Universal Monsters Blu-Ray set. It can be bought for a good price now.

Got the blu ray set, just wish the entire legacy set was cleaned up and put on blu ray.

First time was on Creature Features, WGN Chicago, 1971, later had to special order the VHS tape.

A favorite. Love how the inspector put the darts in his arm.

I've got the entire series on DVD, but I haven't watched any of them in years.... maybe I should dig them out for a re-visit, especially with it being so close to Halloween. ;)

    You should.
Universal monster films are great for getting into the Halloween mood instantly.
And you can keep Lionel Atwill around for the Christmas party in a few months.

I tried to tell people things like that, in 1968, as a 10 year-old, and nobody cared. Forrest Ackerman cared by God.

What can I say about SOF? great soundtrack... great cast... great sets. I maintain that Bela Lugosi's Ygor is one of his finest acting roles of all, and could even have gotten him a "Best Supporting Actor" nomination.

I've always enjoyed Karloff's new "furry vest" look. He give the role his all here, but it was obvious that the role of the Monster was getting less meat on it for an actor.

Basil Rathbone is a joy. I love seeing his nerves becoming gradually more and more frazzled... and I love his interaction with Inspector Krogh (Lionel Atwill).

Only thing seems to be there's not much to the story... but a great old Universal Classic all the same!

That is about the best thing I've ever seen in my life, thanks. Two of my idols.

  18. Interesting that Rathbone has the star billing over Karloff.

I like this movie a lot. I pull it out now and then for a watch. I have the Universal DVD sets of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Invisible Man, The Werewolf and The Mummy. These DVDs look great so I never upgraded to Blu Ray.

The was great fodder for Mel Brooks in Young Frankenstein. I remember when I first saw it, I had never seen Son, so I didn't know it was a parody. I still thought it was very funny.

  22. I have this set. It's pretty good. My only complaint is that the DVD's for "Ghost" and theother sets are on dual layered, dual sided discs.

I'm not crazy about the dual discs either. As long as the playback is good it's not a big deal. I'm glad to have all these classics in one set.

Always loved those eerie, German Expressionist-influenced sets designed by Jack Otterson.

Great movie. The only thing I hate about it is the little kid. I wish the monster had tossed him off the railing... then the movie would've been perfect.

You gotta love the scene where the monster pulls the Chief Inspector's wooden arm off! This is a funny, funny movie. Good score too.
