Part of me would love a Liam-sung "Stop The Clocks," but another part of me wonders if Liam would've even been up to the task at that point, even if he wanted to.

From what I've heard I think "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" required some form of manipulation so that Liam could hit the right notes, and that was in 2002...

Wouldn't surprise me. For some reason, after the 2001 tour, he had a major drop-off in singing ability, and basically shouted his way through the catalog for the rest of Oasis' existence. I mean, you can't smoke and drink like Liam and keep your voice into your late 30's and 40's.

I know the thread is on to solo/post-Oasis albums, but since I missed the earlier discussions, I thought that I would also throw out my favorites/top 10 for non-album singles/b-sides/etc.:

    1. Acquiesce
    2. Whatever
    3. Half the World Away
    4. Talk Tonight
    5. Shout It Out Loud
    6. Sad Song
    7. One Way Road
    8. The Masterplan
    9. Underneath the Sky
    10. Step Out (know it's nicked from Stevie Wonder, but it's too infectious not to love)

Just a quick bump cause I'm not sure if people are aware this thread has updated.

Either that or it's not a very popular album.

I wanted so badly to like Beady Eye, but they were the ashes after the fire that was Oasis. I listened and listened to the music, but found it tepid and unmoving. I don't know how to explain it, but somehow the whole mess that was Beady Eye lacked any soul at all. Like the records, I really don't have much worthwhile to offer about it.

I agree. It's a very average album just like the first. It's not much of a mystery to me why the split up shortly afterwards.

AKA What A Life. (AKA What a tune!) Noel can convey simple joy in a song like few others.

Pity he had to put bloody Russell Brand in the video (AKA Trotsky in tight trousers).

I don't really get the love for this track. It's kind of a slow Noel-by-numbers dirge. I don't hate it or anything, but there's way better stuff on that record. I was kinda surprised when it got issued as a single, to be honest. Of all the slow dirges, I much preferred "Stop The Clocks," even though it was a song we were already familiar with by that point.

I love this album! To me, they went out on a high note. Prior (and since) this album Liam sounds like he really needs his brother. But here, he's great! He sounds complete, whole.

Ugh. Can't stand Russell Brand. I still have nightmares about his cover of "I Am the Walrus" at the London Olympics.

  17. BE isn't a bad album, I enjoy it more than the first Beady Eye album. But it seems fairly disposable in retrospect, especially after hearing Liam's own solo album.

Aware this thread has moved on but this was missed from 1999 which is pretty cool.

What remained of the oasis line up pre SOTSOG teamed up with some of Ocean Colour Scene and Paul Weller to record 2 tracks for the album Fire & Skill - songs from The Jam.

I remember it fondly as it had felt so long since the last Oasis release (All Around The World) in early 98. It was just good to be getting something from the band at that time.

The Jam songs are Carnation (which was released as a single) and To Be Someone. Both amazing album tracks.

I put BE ahead of DGSS. It's the album that was my gateway back into Oasis after Dig Out Your Soul. Missed all Gallagher stuff for about 5-6 years until that hit the street. Listened to BE non-stop for a month or two. Would give it 4/5 stars. Not better than any Oasis album, but a good album nonetheless.

I think they picked the worst singles from BE.

I'm Just Saying would've been a great single. Flick of the Finger is very skippable.

I made one version of the album where Fade In is the first song and it gives your speakers a chance to wake up before the storm hits, if you know what I mean. ;)

I think that problem was, Oasis grew up. Be Here Now is the Party album.
Standing on Giants is the Mature album. It deals with Responsibility.

Good call. Fade In-Out is an absolute monster. Best song on the album by a distance.
