I was hoping for reissue of the 5.1 mix on Bluray but guess that's not happening. This album could have used a new alternate stereo remix.

I guess that's what happens if the artists are not involved in any way with the remaster process. On the other hand they didn't care that the original mixes were brickwalled and compressed. I bet the result will be as compressed as the original CD (DR5 !!!). That's a shame because one of the best rock albums of the last century definitely deserves an audiophile treatment.

The **only** way to remaster this thing is to back off on the dynamic processing.

Aside from that, this generally confirms in my mind the reason behind at least 90% of remasters: To sell more material and make mo' money!!

Because NOTHING coming out after 1990 needs it(incl Rage Against Machine) - except if to undo some of the loudness damage done on the original release. Production quality itself had become reasonably consistent by the 1970s.

Looks like it is missing at least two tracks from this era. "Live Forever (Live at Glastonbury '95)" was a "Roll With It" b-side and there was an acoustic version of "Fade Away" that was included in the 1995 Help! charity album.

    Anything else missing?

  10. If this latest release is any indication, the deluxe Be Here Now will include 99% of the b-sides from that album's singles, a handful of live tracks and perhaps a few - though probably not all - of the Mustique demos. Also, yet again the cover art has been revised with that bizarre new choice of border colour, plus we know the mastering is going to be (somehow) even more horrendous than the original version. *sigh*

Although both recorded in 1995, they are both Definitely Maybe tracks so it's understandable why they are both off the set.

    Few points to note:

Roll With It, the Brendan Lynch mix of Champagne Supernova (note: not the same mix as his unreleased mix from 1995, issued on promo 12") and the demo of Bonehead's Bank Holiday are available to download now on US/Canada iTunes.

The Lynch remix of Champagne Supernova - this is a new mix, a sort of hybrid of that mix and the standard album version.

The demo of Bonehead's Bank Holiday is a very early version, totally different chorus and lyric changes all over the place.

Well, based on these first 2 re-issues, we'll be lucky to get about 2 Mustique demos. Personally, the DM re-issue was boring with the 2 most interesting demos only being available in Japan and there's really nothing of interest on this one either. I have zero interest in live excerpts, and why include a demo of a crap songs like She's Electric and Bonehead’s Bank Holiday? They're clearly setting out not to include the best demos and outtakes on these releases as they're presumably eyeing up future re-issues or boxsets. I'm out.

Well there's certainly no excuse for a lack of demos on the Be Here Now release, as we all know they exist - over a dozen of them. But Noel has consistently stated since it's release that Morning Glory has "no" demos. We know Rockin' Chair and She's Electric (and almost certainly Hello as well) are Coyle demos from 92/93 and Bonehead's Bank Holiday and Hey Now are just soundcheck recordings. So I'm not sure what people were expecting for this release, I was expecting a load of live tracks to pad it out, and that's what we have. The main album sessions were done very quickly, so I guess there's not that much in the way of outtake material that certainly Definitely Maybe was.

I'm looking forward to hear how the remaster sounds. Hope Champagne Supernova has a bit more headroom (DR3 on the original). Would have been nice to hear one or two of the monitor mixes. I imagine there's probably some good stuff on the multitracks (like Noel's guide vocals) but it would cost more to transfer and mix material from them specially for the release. One thing I'd like to hear is the take they tried of She's Electric with Bonehead on piano (see Noel's comment in the link below).

  23. I'm curious to know if Bonehead's personal tape archive was sourced for any bonus material, as he supposedly owns quite a few potentially interesting rarities including an alternate version of "Bank Holiday" with his own lead vocal attempt, plus a handful of recordings from the 1998/9 sessions made prior to his departure. If they're going to release deluxe editions of the last four albums, I'd love to see the aborted Death In Vegas sessions as extras or Revolution Song - perhaps the single most important outtake yet to (officially) see the light of day, which even Paolo Hewitt mentioned in his book as being a highlight of Noel's peak era writing.

I highly recommend listening to the Brendan Lynch Remix of Champagne Supernova. It's not the mix that was released on that 12" in the '90's. It's a complete alternate mix of the song. After hearing it, I wish they would have let him loose on the whole album and issued that as a fourth CD to the Deluxe Edition. I mean, to really hear the bass line after all these years. And how the chorus really soars from the verses when you're not compressing and limiting the track to death, I think it's a great listen.
