I was a junior in high school when the White Album came out. There was a huge degree of excitement about it. EVERYBODY bought it. We would sit around and listen to it start to end, but especially side 1. Every song was great to us (except we would skip Revolution #9).

We all loved and would sing along with Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-Da with big smiles on our faces. It is a great fun song. If you don't get that, well I feel sorry for you.

As Paul said on the Beatles Anthology when asked about the critical reaction to the White Album said something like: " It was great. It sold. It was the bloody Beatles White Album. Shut-up."

It's a McCartney throw-away song. A pop song, nothing more. It's well done, and nicely balances the more heavy songs on the White Album.

A comparison can be made with "Maxwell's Hammer", another McCartney throw-away pop song, well done, that lightens the heavier songs on Abbey Road.

Although "Ob-La-Di" isn't a favourite on the White Album, I don't mind it, and I don't take it too seriously.
In comparison, I find "Maxwell's Hammer" irritating and wish it wasn't on the album as it lack the substance of the other tracks.

I like it. Fun ska influenced song with a jaunty beat. George's "foot" in the background always amuses me

Not a fan. But it could be worse - the version by the late, great Arthur Conley is truly appalling IMO. Apparently his record company pretty much forced him to record it in order to have another hit.

Great pop song. I’m not always in the mood to listen to it, but there are times when it really hits the spot.

I never hated it, but it wasn't anything that I ever really liked, either.

But when I saw him play it back in 2010, it clicked. Between the drive the band gave it, and the absolute joy that was flowing off the audience... yeah, I get it now. I like it.

Love it. It's an album track, and is as varied as everything else on the album.
Why this track gets heat and "Hello, Goodbye" does not is a mystery to me.
    Just an opinion.

Should have been a single. Would have been Number 1. Ahead of its time, sounds like nothing else. Classic Beatles. My Primary School teacher was a fan, as we sang it in school class assembly often during the late 70's. Cool dude!

Great vocals, trippy lyrics, gender-bender precursor to "Get Back", fantastic crossover appeal to every age group and loaded with in-jokes. The aural equivalent of looking through a kaleidoscope on a blisteringly bright sunny day. I like it!
