I put my beer in the refrigerator with the labels facing outward, too.

A cluttered life begets a cluttered mind.

Not a silly question. I do it. It's not like it's a huge chore or anything; seems to me to be more of a bother to have to turn the case or tweak your neck to read the label if it's not upright.

Me too. That way, my sons can see "IPA" on the label and leave it the hell alone.

I make sure the label is upside down, it's a devil worship thing.

That seems a little extreme, and people will think I'm OCD...

to avoid that and attempt to appear otherwise, I put them back exactly like they were oriented when first opened... if I can't remember, I check the photo that is linked to the entry in my CD database... ;)

OK, now we're getting a trifle OCD. But it's all good.

I choose to be ridiculously anal/compulsive about my music collection so I can be carefree about everything else in life.

I don't to that, but I have a related question:

Do you put the CD back in and then rotate it to the 12 position like setting a clock, or do you rotate disc and case in a kind of 2001 Space Odyssey docking maneuvre?

I was always afraid to turn the CD inside the case because I thought I might scratch it if that ring of teeth was to shallow and an unnoticed grain of sand is somewhere in between.

Nah, I don't really care (surprisingly!).

With CDs I never bother with the orientation of the disc in its case unless the package is designed such that the label is an integral part of the whole.

I have a hard enough time just putting the discs in their proper cases. Anything beyond that is icing.

That's just logical, and orderly, and the right thing to do.

I make sure the disc is correctly aligned in my right hand while holding the case in my left hand. Then it's snapped in place. By holding the inner ring and avoiding touching the disc label, if possible.

Yes, I do that and hardly even notice. If that's a little extreme, at least it's way better than the people who go to the other extreme and leave them out of their cases or put them in the wrong cases (or discard the cases and booklets and keep their CDs in those odious "yuppie pouches." Those people drive me crackers.).

I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that I do this with my LPs. If the inner sleeve has a hole for the label, I insert it so when I remove it the next time, the label is showing side one and is straight up and down like this...

I know it's a sickness, but I've accepted it.

Put the CD in and rotate it while it's loosely balanced on the toothed spindled, then push it onto the spindle when the label is in the correct orientation, precisely because I'm also worried about scratching a disc while turning it.

I never thought until now that this is was in any way odd behaviour!

Another thing I enjoy is placing the CD in the tray of the player, playing the disc, ejecting, and finding the CD in the exact position as it had been inerted. I don't know if players are designed to always do that, as I tend not to notice the position they're usually in when ejected, but this has happened many times.

The only time I ever do this is when there's artwork under the tray that the artwork on the disc is supposed to align with.
