You know, I never realized that The Green Hornet was just a frat boy. :shake:

I don't know if I can take this "John Belushi" character as the Masked Avenger....

I'm way past that 20/30 something, beer-drinking demographic...

    I guess I won't be there on 1-14-11..

If they were "true" to the source material, who would be a better Green Hornet? George Clooney? Kevin Costner? Nicholas Cage? Some other middle-aged dude wearing a cheap mask and a trench coat?

I honestly do not think that it was a good idea to do a big screen treatment of a radio serial with a middle aged guy with a dime-store mask.

At least they got middle-aged Cameron Diaz to play the "secretary"!

    Initial thoughts:

As an action film it looks fun!
I'm glad they kept the kick-@ss car and didn't go the way of the Batman vehicles.
The Green hornet is supposed to be dark, and I'm not certain about the comedic aspects.

Lastly, is anyone else tired of Seth Rogen?
Is anyone else tired of the 3-D nonsense?

Yes, I'm tired of Seth Rogan and 3-D.

I loved The Green Hornet as a kid, and thought Bruce Lee was the coolest!

    Seth Rogen = FAIL.

Loved the TV show in '66, when I was 8.
Don't get " tired " of anyone, because I don't see every one of their films (esp.if the film has no appeal for me, i.e drunken frat-boy B.S.).
Don't give a rat's aspirator for 3D, can't see it anyway, never could, don't care.
I'll likely buy the Blu Ray in March.

The Syfy TV Channel is showing a marathon of the 1966 "Green Hornet" TV show (the one with Bruce Lee) today (Tuesday) from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM. It looks like they're going to be showing all 26 episodes.

Didn't see this post last night, so pleasantly surprised to find it while surfing my on-screen guide just now. :agree:

Love the 60s TV series! I was fascinated with everything 'Green Hornet' when I was very young. Weird kid! The thing is, I still am!
Well, that's the way it was until this Seth Rogan movie. The car looks cool, but every trailer looks soooooo bad. I also saw the Mythbusters special about the new movie - FAIL in a HUGE way. Just plain dumb.

Glad I have the TV series taped from TV in my collection.

I stumbled upon it. Watching now. These look great in HD!!

Since these are realllllllyyyy nice transfers, this bodes well for a possible DVD release!
Makes one wonder if an accord has been stuck between the bickering owners of the Batman/Green Hornet franchise???

What's the word on the movie? Review in Salon today gives it an OK. Personally, not only did the television ad the other night look cool, but because it's Michel Gondry, I am in -- after "The Science of Sleep," I feel I will owe him for a long time.

Well, the clip I saw on TV where Cameron Diaz beats up both the Green Hornet and Kato didn't exactly get my hopes up for the film. Poor Kato. They finally made his fight with Robin "the boy wonder" end in a draw on the Batman TV show because Bruce Lee refused to let Robin win as was originally scripted. Now it's come to this... Kato gets beaten up by Britt Reid's secretary "Casey" Case. :)

It isn't Shakespeare, but who cares? The movie is a truckload of fun, action and car porn. Go see it.

+1. Not having expectations for the film--or not knowing what to expect--made the movie that more enjoyable. Yes, it's a fun ride, if you leave your brain at the door. :)

I saw it yesterday and it's boat loads of fun... Didn't realize Cameron Diaz was in it.

I definitely want to see this.

I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that the release of this movie means the series with Bruce Lee might finally see the light of day on DVD?? Pretty please? :D

i saw it today and couldn't take my eyes off it :D .....it was totally predictable, very formulaic, unbelievable, and some of the acting wasn't so good..... but if you put those things aside, you're left with entertaining action sequences, plenty of comedy, great filmwork/editing, and an excellent soundtrack..... it even features vinyl records

    i loved it!

I saw it in 3D last night. Had tons of fun with it, though I didn't really buy the whole "rivalry" with Britt and Kato. It seemed poorly executed. The end fight was over the top and kind of eye roll inducing but I mean, still fun.

The part that had me laughing was the first encounter with the gang after they create the Black Beauty and Britt is trying to discover the boss' identity. I was literally laughing so hard I couldn't breathe.

I also loved the fact that there was no love story between Britt and his secretary (kinda like Iron Man). Very nice.

The soundtrack was awesome and I immediately ran out to buy the Greenhornes' new album after hearing their song in the end credits ("Saying Goodbye").

I saw the new Green Hornet movie in Imax 3-D last week and it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed it more than any of the other recent comic book superhero movies. There really wasn't that much 3-D in the movie, so if you see it in 2-D you're not missing much.

The Black Beauty car in the movie, just like in the original series of the 60's, is based upon 1965 and 1966 Imperial Crown 4 Door Sedans. I remember seeing these beautiful cars in showrooms when I was in junior high. The Imperial was the top of the line brand from Chrysler Corporation made to compete against GM's Cadillac and Ford's Lincoln.

There were 5 models in the Imperial line of cars, the Crown 4 Door, the Crown Coupe, the Crown Convertible, and the top of the line was the Imperial LeBaron (which had the small rear limo style window). Chrysler later basterdized the LeBaron name by calling their cheapest Chrysler model the Chrysler LeBaron. And finally, there was a limo called the Crown Ghia with coachwork done by the Ghia Corp. Years later Chrysler discontined the Imperial line of cars, but the name survived for a few years inside the Chrysler line of cars as the top of the line model.

On one hand it was great to see these old Imperials showcased in the movie. But at the same time I was sad to see according to written reports, that of the 29 vehicles restored or semi restored for the movie, only 3 survived. The rest were destroyed! I guess the crash scenes really ate these up! I am surprised they couldn't have accomplished this with digital special effects. One writer said that if there is a sequel, it could really eat up whatever 65/66 Crown Imperials are left, which would be a real shame.
