Wish me luck. Have had the mono box set for four months now and have been waiting for the right time to spin it. Today is that day. Haven’t owned the amp for forty eight hours yet but figured Pepper is how I wanna start breaking in my tubes.

    Here we go

With only one speaker, doesn't seem like you have much of a choice.
I have to say though, I appreciate your commitment to mono.

Mono cartridge is no bueno for these (assuming it's the 2014)...stylus width will chew them up, as they were cut with a stereo lathe.

Personally, I was underwhelmed. Earlier albums sounded better in mono but Pepper and later albums sound better in stereo. YMMV.

I am not sure that is the kind of system that the Beatles intended the album to be played on. Wouldn't something like this be more appropriate?

Okay you guys were right about everything that I’ve read here for the last nine months....Pepper, Mono, Tubes

There were times I actually jumped because there were notes, bass lines and even vocals/talking I had never heard before.

    OMG that was fantastic!!!!

Are we sure about that? I seem to remember some significant chat from our host, about the time these came out
recommending the purchase of a mono phono cartridge.
I think Ortofon even cobbled together an all white cartridge to mark the event.

You scared the bejeezus outta me....

Mono from 2014 on left, stereo from 2014 on right...totally different colours. Plus the back one says stereo and the other mono.

Ortofon did release a mono cartridge. It has the standard width of a mono stylus, which will chew up the much thinner groove cut with a stereo lathe.

edit: Apparently I am mistaken, the Ortofon cartridge specifically should be just fine on old and new mono LPs. Most other mono cartridges will chew your stereo-cut mono Lps.

Yes it is very nice. But all those hard reflective surfaces I see in that listening space would definitely be a problem for me. But that’s just me. I’m sure it’s going to be great. Oddly enough I too have yet to hear Pepper in mono.
