Hi everyone, Just came across this forum in my web surfing in search of info on older speakers. A couple of speakers which catch my interest is the Technics SB-E100 and the speaker that brought me to this forum, the Tangent RS6. Does anybody have any info on these and approx how much they are going for? Thanks

No help with the speaker question but I wanted to welcome you. I'm sure someone will have a helpful opinion soon.

Thanks everyone. I am just discovering AudioKarma for the last hour or so. I'll try to post something if I find anything out. I'm just starting out in my discoveries of "new" old stuff.

    Hi and welcome aboard!

Send Gary a "Private Message" as he has the RS6's and swears by them. He can probably help and he lives in Canada as well.

    Hi! Welcome!

I see that you bought those RS6's that were going on eBay yesterday! I was tempted... but why would I need a second pair? :sigh:

It's hard to find Tangent info on the internet.

They have KEF- T-27 tweeters and Audex (France) drivers. The drivers have not been made for years and are very rare these days. Treat those speakers with loving care!

What else do you need / want to know? Who knows - I may know the answer!

(PS: I also have RS8's which are harder to find.... )

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to get more info before making the purchase. I'm wondering if I paid too much or not. Anyways, I'm picking them up tomorrow. Looking to get a Jolida 202A used. Do you think the Jolida will run these alright? Don't know the efficiency or anything for that matter on these.

I run them with 40W a side - which is about what the Jolida is rated as. Or was the J. at 35?

At any rate, you should be fine.

And it's pretty rare to see them in their shipping boxes! I think I paid $600.00 for mine 9used, of course). They went for $1,100.00 or $1,200.00 when new.

The place you're picking them up at... can you tell me what store it is? And if they have any other vintage equipment there?

you can send me a PM (private message) if you like. Just click on my name and then "Send private message...".

    Thanks!

I finally picked up my new old Tangent RS6. They looked like they are one year old instead of 28 year olds. Very happy. I have set them up and played them and had the wife do a sound test with me. They sounded pretty good.

I'm using a Rotel RSX1065 in stereo mode with a Cambridge Audio DVD55 player. The interconnects are just Monster cables from way back and regular Monster Cable speaker wires from Future Shop.

I compared them to my main speakers, the B&W CDM-7NTs. Still no comparison. The B&Ws are still way better. But to be fair, I have biwired and some brand name speaker wire (can't remember what they are) with the B&Ws. Still very happy with how the Tangents sound.

I got the original manual with the Tangents, it's pretty interesting in that it is typed with a typewriter on Sound Physics Labs letterhead (Toronto address). It recommends 18guage lamp wire. I guess that was the "good stuff" then.

A question for Gary, do the grills come off or not? I'm afraid to just rip them off. Sounds like attached with velcro of some sort.
