Oldest Living Singer to have hit album? Dame Vera Lynn

Got to be Vera Lynn, surely? She even has a new album of duets out in 2017, and she's 100 years old!

Quite incredible. On the BBC news this morning they showed the giant tribute projections that they are going display on... the white cliffs of Dover of course! She must be one proud lady.

 

She had an almost Sheeranesque three entries in what's regarded as the UK's first singles chart back in 1952.

 

You nailed it! Ed Sheeran is the Vera Lynn of today!

 

Makes sense, in a weird way.

 

She was also the first UK artist to top the US charts (and one of only three prior to the Beatles), with "Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart" in 1952.

 

Just as an aside.....not one "Bluebird" has ever flown over the White cliffs of Dover. Not one.

They showed a few clips of her on the news tonight. One was her singing Sailing. Strange hearing her sing a song so closely identified with a more modern singer.

 

Is this album primarily the original vocals with new music or is she re-recording these? The article makes reference to the former but also mentions duets with some other singers.
