    Hi guys,

just wanted to share my joy here! I received today a McIntosh MA6850 amp that I just bought used from a very nice gentleman who of course was definetely passionate into audio stuff!

I used to have a very recent Yamaha R-N602 amp, which was quite decent I'd say, but now, there's a totally new world!
I think what I find the most impressive is spatialization and accuracy, but also... power!!! OMG, I'm not sure my neighbours will be as enthousiastic as me!!!
Here are a couple of pics, including views of the inside: I was curious to see how it was in there, plus it obviously needed dusting!

I think I'm going to spend the whole weekend on my couch, listening to this incredible piece of art, and looking at its beautiful blue eyes of course!

Some years ago I got my first McIntosh, it was an MA6900. I remember those days... enjoy it and be proud!

Nice upgrade. Now, you should save for a new phono stage that is worthy of the task of getting all of the information from your nice table and cartridge to that amp. A Lehmann Black Cube would yield yet another world of difference.

Thanks Bill for this tip! Actually I also use a Rottel phono preamp, that the seller kindly gave me for free, but I haven't noticed any real improvement, gonna have a look at the one you're suggesting!

Very nice, but it is my opinion that those meters need to be moving a bit more to the right. :righton:

@KT88 : Bill, you shouldn't be proud of yourself: directly after reading your post, I looked for a used one, found one at a decent price, and sent a Paypal payment to the seller! Shame on you! Of course I'm kidding, thank you for the tip, hope I will notice a real improvement!
(there's no noticeable difference between the NAD PP1 and Rotel R970 I currently own I'd say).
@DPM : yeah, you're definitely right, but unfortunately I live in a terraced house (is it the accurate wording in English? Well, there are neighbours just on the other side of the wall), and it was a bit late to push the volume when I took the picture!

I too just got some McIntosh a week or so ago for the first time: amp, preamp and a tuner. Makes a world of difference in terms of sound for me. Can't stop staring at it!

How interesting that it has two dedicated CD inputs! Two turntables, sure, but I've never known anyone to hook up two CD players.

mine has two TT inputs as well and I have no idea why anyone other than a DJ maybe, that would need this. but I assume there's a good reason or it wouldn't be this way.

  24. Congratulations. Two weeks ago I received an NOS Mcintosh C2500 pre-amp so I know how your feel.

One for mono, one for stereo.
One for microgroove, one for dedicated 78 duty.
One for MM, one for MC.
One for a high compliance cart + low mass arm, one for a low compliance cart + high mass arm.

    ...you get the picture.
