You can pick one film from any year, any decade that's your favourite film from that year.

    1968: Planet Of The Apes
    1994: Pulp Fiction

    The more the merrier ....

    1985-Back To The Future
    1987-Withnail and I
    1995-Blue Juice (1)
    2000-Memento
    2001-Ghost World
    2002-Mulholland Drive
    2013-Under The Skin

    (1) A bit of kitsch fun but I came of age in the 1990s and the obvious choices are particularly obvious.

Just a handful that have always remained my "best" film of their given year...

1960: La Dolce Vita (Federico Fellini)
1966: The Endless Summer (Bruce Brown)
    1973: The Exorcist (William Friedkin)
    2001: Mulholland Dr (David Lynch)

And my offering of a year where there is too many damn good ones to even try to decide!

    1970
    Woodstock
    Gimme Shelter
    Tora! Tora! Tora!
Elvis Presley: That's The Way It Is
    Patton
Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls

Just flip a five or six sided coin and enjoy! :)

I'm also extremely torn with a year like 1979, thanks to Apocalypse Now and Manhattan.

First of all, they are apples to oranges films. One an art-piece of black and white, the other a surreal epic rich in color hues.

Both are in my Top 10 films ever made.

I think more when I watch Apocalypse Now (and think more afterwards). But I enjoy (and rewatch) Manhattan more.

If all else fails, I just call it a draw and watch Rocky II (also from 1979).

We lived in a part of the midwest where we couldn't even get the big releases, until the Cinerama screen in Indianapolis was done with them...even though we didn't have Cinerama in our town! Some bizarre sort of weird exclusivity contract kept us from seeing anything big unless it ran in the Circle Theater first! I know this can't be correct, I but I remember somehow not getting Mary Poppins on schedule when it was out here, because The Circle was holding over Sound of Music, 70 miles down the road. Somethin' really weird going on there.

Later on, the long wait for them to give up their hold on 2001, so Central Indiana could have a taste, was excruciating...:realmad:

(Oh, but polyester sci-fi like Logan's Run and Soylent Green, nooooo problem...)

Don't think Glasgow tourist board are going to use the film to promote advertising the city. :)

    Marathon Man
    All the President's Men
    Taxi Driver.

    Well, you can keep "Network."

I vote best film of 1976 (year I graduated from High School) would be:

Taxi Driver: A Michael and Julia Philips Production
