If he could find a way to dub "Pet Sounds" onto the soundtrack, he'd find a welcome home here.

This guy is trying to collect every VHS copy of the movie Speed:

    The World Speed Project »

I guess people just send their old copies to him for the heck of it. Doesn't seem to cost him anything. He's up to over 1,000 (although it looks like the site hasn't had an update since 2014).

I like Jurassic Park and VHS tapes, but I don't like them that much. :)

Hey, we have no use for reasonableness and moderation in collecting around these parts!

I think the point is how something once so desirable and ubiquitous in almost everybody's VHS collection could become obsolete and practically worthless 24 years later. Threads like this make me question my continued obsession with physical media.

I feel really bad for people who've spent thousands on Blu-Rays!

I'd be more impressed if it was The Land Before Time. :)

Surely these people don't think they could actually collect *every* copy of those movies.... I mean, those VHS tapes were manufactured in mass quantities, so there must be hundreds of thousands (if not more) of them out there.

Plus, Jurassic Park came out at the height of Blockbuster Video so I imagine tens of thousands of copies were made and sold to Blockbuster Video stores for rental purposes.

Me, I'd collect the 1989 VHS release of Batman just because I still think the cover is cool. :)

For the same reason a dog licks himself.

    Because he can!

In the days of VHS I could see someone having two or three copies of a movie that they really like since the tapes do wear out with repeated playing. For the person with the Jurassic Park tapes, their tapes should last more than 60 years (assuming each tape is played 100 times, once each day).

The irony of collecting a dinosaur movie on the VHS format is not lost on me.

It's OK if people want to accumulate whatever they wish just remember the saying: not to put all your eggs in one basket, distribute those copies between different rooms/warehouses in case of a natural or man-provoked disaster you don't lose your cherished collection all of a sudden.

My best at-the-movies memory: My 7 year old daughter is sitting on my lap during the JP kitchen scene, where the 2 kids are in alone with the raptors. At one of the scary moments my daughter stands up, standing on my thighs, turns around and jumps head first into the lap of the lady sitting right behind us. :D

He will have best possible care in the white room with dark curtains..
