In the thread about what do your friends think about your audio system, I mentioned that I host get-togethers for a group of audiophiles here in the city (that I like to refer to as "Geek Nights"). Since there are a number of people on this forum that live in the area (or visiting), I wanted to put out an invite to forum members the next time I planned a gathering. I am planning a Geek Night for Thursday, September 15, starting at 6 PM. The theme is "Sixties Cocktail Party." The idea is to play music that you would play if you were hosting a cocktail party in NYC in the 60s (think of the party scene from Breakfast at Tiffany's). Feel free to bring any music you would like to play (anything from Mancini to Coltrane, to Beatles or Jimi Hendrix). While cocktails, wine, and beer will be available, it is not a drunken frat party and several members of the group don't drink, so don't worry if you're a teatotaler. My system is a 300B SET amp based system, so if you are interested in hearing one, this is your opportunity. You are welcome to bring vinyl or reel-to-reel tapes (I have an Otari MX5050), or CD (but only if it is something you really want to hear- we prefer analog). I have all of the Music Matters Blue Note disks, and will be spinning some of that, for sure. Please let me know if you can make it so I know how much food/booze to get. Also, you are encouraged to dress as you would for a 60s cocktail party, but that is optional. I will PM my address (in midtown Manhattan) to anyone that is coming.
