This is one of those threads where I'm going to write down a bunch of albums I want to buy and end up even poorer.

    Thanks, guys. :)

Both of them are much better and more genuinely country than any of the formulaic redneck pop that's currently passing for country on the radio.

A fantastic live album and definitely country/folk-flavored (and is it just me or does he sound eerily like Jim Morrison on the deep cut "Cops")?

I always loved this one and At San Quentin on vinyl, but the uncensored CDs with bonus tracks are even better.

That song, "You Never Even Called Me By My Name" (co-written by the late Steve Goodman and an uncredited John Prine) is on Coe's Once Upon a Rhyme album.

The cd seems to have a different track listing from the LP.

Really, any of the early ones on GRC are great. WAY before the Branson jive.

Further examination, I think the discogs entry is wrong. I ''clicked image'' and the listing on the lp is not what discogs has as the track listing.

4 pages in and no mention of the great Tom T. Hall, dubbed "The Storyteller" by Tex Ritter, and also known as "the Ernest Hemingway of country music." I have many favorite country albums, but Tom T. Hall's In Search of a Song is unsurpassed, with 11 finely crafted story songs laced with ironic twists and true literary flair. It's available on CD as a Bear Family "twofer" with his album The Rhymer and Other Five-and-Dimers which is also first rate. He also made many more excellent albums. His first 8 are available on those Bear Family twofers and all are more than worthwhile. Many of his others are out of print, but well worth searching for.
