    Pigmode,
Looks like you're the lucky one as it states one item available ;)

If the price is too good to be true...

I had bought a few from half.com that were supposed to be gold discs but they were just the regular issues. Had to return for a refund. This looks like another bad entry.

It's not a gold disc. The description states that it isn't. Sorry about that! :(

Before I ordered mine there were three. Was there a gold version version as well? If so, how is it different from this disc? Is this a bonafide DCC disc?

There's a couple versions of that album out on the market. First, there's the DCC version, and the cover looks like the one pictured at your link. Then, there's the regular Sony one, a mid-price disc (easy to tell: different color ink than the bronze/gold ink DCC uses, pure white background, a greenish bar at the top with some words in it, etc.). Then there's the two budget CD's Sony put out that basically splits the album into two CD's with ten songs each.

What sucks about some of the sellers at half.com is that they list non-gold CD's under the gold CD listings, just to get a buyer to look at those listings and think it's the gold CD at a relatively cheap price. Some people, especially Djangos, will not even say it's the standard, aluminum CD.

I should add that the DCC version is out-of-print, as most of you already know, but unlike the Sony discs, it comes with the best booklet DCC's ever packaged with its CD's. Bill Porter himself has commentary on every track! Very detailed liner notes...I wish DCC would do this with every release.

    Sorry Brian,
If you read closely the top one is in fact the DCC gold disc for $5.50 but only shows one in stock, It could be a mis-print but it sure doesn't appear that way. There is however an Austalian gold cd version as well but I'd be willing to bet that it doesn't compare to Steves version and it's definately not on DCC. I think it's on RCA
    Peace

Thanks Camarillo. The main thing is that it's Steve's version. What luck! I found a mint copy of DCC's Zombies only last week.

Oh, are from Cali, or are you into Zappa?

    Dave,

No apologies needed. I'm the one who should apologise. I was looking at the sellers under the DCC Gold disc and thought that's the one he was referring to. You're right it is gold. Sorries to the Pigmode. Didn't mean to jump the gun like that! Gotta get these eyes fixed ya' know?

    :)

I got the gold disk last week at MediaPlay.com. I just checked the site and it still says it usually ships in 24 hours.

    Good Luck to all!

Be real careful buying from Half.com. It's not their fault, it's just that people take their CD and use the nearest product discription to what they have in their hand. One outfit in the midwest were selling thousands of used Cds at a decent price, but the interface they were using referenced the DTS and some of the gold Cds that were in the system.

I had close to $100 just tied up in what I thought were DTS Cds. Bargin? No. I had to pay for shipping twice...for nada.

    I was very grrrrr....

I agree with Scott about half.com. Wish there was a way to ask the seller a question like you can on ebay to make sure you're getting what you want. I've also had some good experiences there, but it's a real crapshoot, dependent on the accuracy and morals of the seller

I'm reassured to see others are as ticked about half.com as I am. I saw a DCC Made in Japan on there for $17 the other day (check it out, the DCC cover is not pictured, adding to the confusion). That's way cheaper than the title goes for on ebay.

I passed. After wading through almost 200 feedbacks the seller had, I decided it wasn't worth the risk.

The people running half have pretty much gone out of their way to make sure the seller and buyer can't talk to one another. Why, I don't know. So you don't get to see the item, you don't get to talk to the seller, and you get reamed on shipping. $2.30 for media mail? Come on! I can ship CDs in padded mailers for $1.26 first class, sometimes cheaper. And, as Scott pointed out, if you get the wrong item, you get to pay two way shipping.

Also, as others have pointed out, sellers are really lax about what they list under the 'gold CD' heading. Sometimes you even seen cassetes listed. I "bought" a MoFi "Eat a Peach" for $8. Luckily, the seller realized it was a stock CD before he shipped it, and cancelled the transaction.

Yeah it's kind of sketchy. If eBay is a high-class bar in old San Fransisco town hungry for your gold dust, then half.com is the dusty saloon in Tomestone. It's a last chance resource for the music deprived here in Volcania. :(
