Forgive me if this has been covered already -- I did a search and didn't find anything.

In the August 16-18 issue of "The Hollywood Reporter," Ernst Jorgensen claims that the new "Elvis 30 #1 Hits" CD "features a first-generation master recording of 'Heartbreak Hotel' that had been missing for 46 years and was retreived by Jorgensen only a few months ago."

I realize this guy is not a favorite around here, but I remembered that even Steve thought the original master had been erased, so this is an interesting bit of news, if it's true.

It's very possible that the original session tape showed up. Probably some engineer back in 1956 mistakenly put it in a box and forgot to label or mislabeled it. Regardless, the original master will now be treated to the latest and greatest big label digital remastering tecniques. At which point "Heartbreak Hotel" will become "Earache Hotel"

And Steves version will still shine through the fog of remasters.;)
