Also did a great collaboration with Miles Davis on Legrand Jazz in 1958.

"Vivre Sa Vie" is one of my top 5 films of all time (and a shot from it is my avatar here), and the music he composed is as crucial as Godard's direction or Anna Karina's acting.

I was just listening to a cd of his music yesterday, and had rewatched Umbrellas of Cherbourg last month.

Barbra Streisand's recording of "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life" nearly brings me to tears every time I hear it. Here's a live performance from about a decade ago. Not as "perfect" as the original recording, but still captivating.

 

RIP, one of the great composers.
