Definitely interested in this one. $55 for 6 cds sounds alright. I hope the price stays that low in Canadian funds! :)

Nice. Kind of wondering how they'll get 6 CD's, though.

They recorded seven sets over three nights, according to the liner notes for 2010's Live on the Sunset Strip.

Seven sets over three nights?...that may make a tremendous amount of repetition, of course. As long as it sounds good, it'll be a keeper.

I wonder how many different songs that were played during the run have not been released already on the Live At The Whisky A Go Go vols. 1 & 2 and Live On Sunset Strip? It would be nice to have a version of each song played during the run.

The 2 disc Live On The Sunset Strip has 5 versions of Satisfaction and they're all great and different! So some of the repetition will be alright. :)

Hopefully the SQ will be good on this set.

In chronological order, this six-CD collection presents the entirety of Otis Redding s performances over three nights at the famed Whisky A Go Go, on LA s Sunset Strip. The seven sets, recorded Friday, April 8th Sunday, April 10th, feature the singer s popular songs of the time, including Respect, I ve Been Loving You Too Long and his cover of The Rolling Stones (I Can t Get No) Satisfaction. Several of these recordings all remixed and remastered from the original analog tapes will be released for the very first time. Rounding out the package is a poster, plus new liner notes from box set producer Bill Bentley and Los Angeles-based journalist Lynell George.

Thanks. Interesting that they only did "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" once, which was the last song done during the last set on the last night.

It was actually the second to last song. They closed with yet another version of "Satisfaction," as can be heard on Live on the Sunset Strip. I assume that's on the new set too, and it was just left off the advance track listing.

Track 2 on disc 6 should be called "Your One And Only Man" rather than "Destiny," but that error goes back to 1982.

  15. You know - a lot of us have come to just take for granted how great the 60's were; but imagine if you can a time when you could just walk into a small club on Sunset Blvd and see Otis Freaking Redding and his band tearing the roof off the place...

    Wow, just wow.

    If I counted correctly:
So it looks as if there are 18 individual songs: 15 songs are done multiple times; plus 3 more --- "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag" and "A Hard Day's Night" and "Destiny (aka Your One and Only Man)" --- which were done only once each.

Not a knock on either, but what makes this live release different is that the backing band isn't Booker T. and there's no "Try A Little Tenderness" in the setlists. A whole lotta Satisfactions but as noted he could make them different. I may wait for a few dollars off but I might not as I still remember having to live with just one side of Monterey until I could his other live albums in a big city record store. (Though it wasn't exactly torture, as sometimes I'd start with the Redding side, play Jimi and play the Otis again).

Or just down the block and around the corner was the Troubadour, no telling who was on stage there about to become legendary.

It was an incredible moment in time we shall savor for the rest of our lives from the tapes like this that were made. Somebody knew something hot was going down on stage if they recorded 7 shows. Volt records with Atlantic money captured lightning in a bottle here. A rare thing.

    Gotta gotta gotta!

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the original recordings from these concerts as well as the European tours were literally spliced to shreds in the making of the original albums and that trying to create a "Complete" collection of anything would be a daunting undertaking. I can't remember the source. It may have been liner notes to some previous release, Bowman's book, something by Guralnick, or maybe some random website.
Also, does anyone know the source for the information posted at Jazzdisco? They list several other songs as being performed during this stand at the Whisky.

I guess I'm just looking for more information on this if anyone knows.
