Oh, one more. Van Morrison - The Philosopher's Stone.

And to a lesser extent, A Period of Transition.

  2. I have the EMI-Electrola vinyl of Sweet Smoke "Just A Poke" and really enjoy it.
Very nice psych rock with blues and jazz influences ... one long song per side on this one ...

For my OOP pick I would like to see the Bob Dylan Bootleg Series Vol. 1-3 put out on a Classic Records vinyl set.

Jeff, I'm pretty sure that you'll love it, if you're into early '70's acoustic singer/songwriters. I realize that we all have our own favorite "styles" of music and I like a lot of different things, from Sinatra to Stu Nunnery. One thing that you can ALWAYS trust in me, on this forum, is that if I say I like something, you better know that I REALLY believe in it! If you end up liking the Stu Nunnery album, please feel free to PM me and I'll try to tell you about a few other unknowns or virtually unknowns, that I also think you'd like.

Pretty much the entire MFSL catalogue that is OOP. Same with the DCC releases. The W. German Atomic Rush albums, and the ORIGINAL Japanese black triangle vinyl Dark side of the moon.

I'd like to see Richie Havens' 'Mixed Bag II' on cd- has an absolutely great song on it, "The Indian Prayer". Also from 1975, Taj Mahal's 'Music Keeps Me Together' (ditto great track called "Aristocracy").

I think you can still get this as an import from Italy but the SQ leaves a little to be desired and the song listings are all wrong.

  13. Michael, I do not ever remember seeing this CD set in the stores up here. Don't think it was released here or if it was, it was in limited supply from BMG Canada. Either way, I don't have it and can't afford $200+ the odd time someone offers up a copy for sale or trade. :sigh:

The Classic edition with two CD's.

Better yet, how about a three channel SACD edition.

Yeah, and early "jam band". Like L.T.S. mentioned, there are only two side-long tracks on the album, each a little over 16 minutes long - Baby Night and Silly Sally.

    The lineup:

    Andrew Dershin: Bass
    Jay Dorfman: Drums and percussion
    Marvin Kaminowitz: Solo guitar, Vocals
Michael Paris: Tenor sax, alto recorder, vocals, percussion
    Steve Rosenstein: Rhythm guitar, vocals

So with the brass/reeds you have your "Jazz influence".

These were a group of Americans living in (West) Germany at the time, which was also where the album was recorded - engineered by none other than Conny Plank and released in 1970. Ask Eroc about Herr Plank...;)

Anyway, nice to see Sweet Smoke get a passing nod at SH.tv.

I was starting to think nobody had heard of them.
I was a GI stationed in Berlin in the mid 70's and they were very popular there.
Most people in my unit had a copy, kinda' our DSOTM.:edthumbs:
I still have a cassette I recorded from the album.

Power Tools (Bill Frisell, Melvin Gibbs, Ronald Shannon-Jackson) - Strange Meeting (1987, Antilles)

Great record with no overdubs, Frisell in shred mode rarely heard this way today, monster drumming from Shannon-Jackson.
