I really like the outtakes of "Walls and Bridges (John Lennon)" better than the final versions...in most cases. They are much more stripped down without the usual slathering of echo all over John's voice.

I prefer The Band's outtake of Cryin' heart blues to the cover by Rick Danko.

Yes! This is a slightly different mix than the one I've heard before, but this version is just Crosby and Jack Casady, right?

This is the perfect example -- it took a song I was very "meh" about, and made it into one of my absolute favorites from any member of CSN(Y).

I love the outtake of What You're Doing, I think take 11 that's all over YouTube. John's harmony just kills me.

I prefer the demo version of Blur's "Far Out":

I think you're right. I know it from the bonus tracks included on a re-release of Hunky Dory on CD.

I always liked this acoustic demo of All Down The Line but I like the electric version as well.

I like this version of You Got The Silver better than the version with Keith singing.

The original undubbed version of "Oh Boy!" by Buddy Holly. It's much better without the background vocals:

Greeny was really getting cooking on take 3 and Christine was rockin' that piano so good.

I love the hard driving rhythm guitar (not to mention Ringo's aggressive drumming) that is otherwise buried under the horns, etc, in the final mix.

Don't believe it was ever intended that way, that was just engineer Desper playing around with the mix... but if we're talking Beach Boys... why oh why did they recut an inferior version of Big Sur, when they could and should have issued this...

IIRC he pitched it to the band and they declined it. Pity, since it's so much more effective with the instrumental introduction!

Yes I prefer the 4/4 version as well. I would much rather have had this on Surfs Up than Student Demonstration Time,

Sinatra recorded a "test track" for "One For My Baby" with only a piano. So much more intimate than the final, released album version.

This earlier, alternate version of "I Beg of You" is much more spirited than the version that was ultimately released.
