After a slow start, I though S2 ramped up the tension pretty good. Implausible at times to almost the point of ridiculous but the series works for me like a well done adaptation of a graphic novel. These are not nice people in this but it's still very entertaining. 8/10
Finished s02. It started slow but it got better in episode 6 or so. Darlene is one of the scariest characters I've ever seen.
She is scary in the sense that she seems out of control crazy with no thought as to the consequences of her actions., like when she shot Del. Jacob was a bad dude as well, but he seem more centered and focused.
Finally finished it up. I had downloaded most of season 2 on my phone. After Hurricane Michael and no power it was nice to watch it on my small screen at night. I guess they have it set up for a season 3? Season 2 could've ended but they leave it open for more. They wrapped up a lot in the last 2 episodes so I thought it might be the end but now that it's over it looks like we could get a season 3.
This is an interesting show, I'm caught up now. I disagree with some above that Bateman gave less of a great performance in this second season, seemed to me that the weight of the events of the first season, the growing awareness of the futility of ever getting out from under the specter of the cartel and his own family's actions working against him rightfully made him a bit more guarded and I thought this was well portrayed. I found it interesting how the two marriages, Byrde and Snell, paralleled in important ways. Mrs. Byrde grew into a partner in crime and began independent action, Mrs. Snell was from the start a force and a liability. Looking forward to Season 3.
Wow, I finally found the time to get through the rest of Season 2 and we really enjoyed it. I disagree with anybody who felt the show wasn't as good in the second year -- I thought it was scary as hell and very tense, plus it was jam-packed with a whole lot of real story and character. There are some massive surprises going on; at one point, it actually seemed like the series was going to come to an end, but they pulled the rabbit out of the hat and kept going. Just amazing. Note to self: do not trust family members, particularly making coffee or after you hand them a bag full of money. Bad things happen. My only misgiving with the show: it's got a weird, weird look that I don't think tells the story any better. The look is by design and is intentional, but I don't like it as a creative choice. Breaking Bad looked great throughout and never had to look weird, desaturated, and blue to get its point across. Hell, even Walking Dead doesn't look this weird.
The Byrde family will be coming back to Netflix for Ozark season 3, according to a new announcement by star, executive producer, and frequent director Jason Bateman. That sounds like good news, so you’ll have to keep reading to find out why Bateman is “concerned.” Jason Bateman on Twitter Fear not, Ozark fans. There’s no trouble brewing behind the scenes, Bateman is only concerned about the fate of his character, Marty – a whip-smart financial planner who’s been laundering money for a Mexican drug cartel and relocates his family from Chicago to the comparative wilderness of the Ozarks in order to capitalize on the untapped market there. Laura Linney co-stars.
Great acting all around. My best friend's son plays Jonah Byrde in the series. The show is up for a few SAG awards this weekend as well.
I just finished season 1 and 2 and overall I thought it was pretty good. Definitely not on the level of quality of "Breaking Bad" which it's often compared to. But it's a solid show in its own right. A lot of the most entertaining characters were killed off in season 2 so it will be interesting to see how things proceed in season 3.
Question from season one: how does Marty launder money by Spoiler spending the money with carpet suppliers and overpriced contractors? That money is gone, not washed.
I had the same question. Doing various searches, the most logical explanation seems to be that the various suppliers and contractors Marty is using are Cartel front companies. So all the costs are being paid indirectly to the Cartel. How exactly is Marty Byrde laundering money?
Just started this and wow, I'm hooked. Only a few episodes in, quite surprised by it. Also, I am in love with that old house they are renting in the first episodes. Nothing fancy but plenty of windows.
Me too! We never had Netflix until Christmas when I picked up the 30 day free trial so we could watch the Springsteen On Broadway show. I had heard good things so I checked it out and wow! The season one finale is one of the best tv episodes I've ever seen, and the momentum seems to continue with season two.
Yep, great show. I almost passed on it. I like Jason's work and put it off. Finally watched the first episode and binged watched the first season, then the second a few days after it was released. The season 1 finale IS fantastic. I kind of wonder about seaosn 3. Is it going to by the Byrde's against the mafia? I dunno but I would've been happy if they ended at season 2 but I am glad there will be another.
I see a Ruthie vs Wendy showdown. "Listen here fug-nuggets, I run this here casino!" "Little girl, you run nothing." I like Ruthie. I think she deserves an award for her outstanding acting and character arc. Helluva part. I watched this show in a month marathon. Pretty dang dark. And I never thought Id say it, but it gives Breaking Bad a run for its money. Its a very well made show. Scariest character of maybe the most twisted in the mind by the evil in this show...the preacher. Made me white knuckle a few times.
