Does anyone know who performs this classic sung by, what I believe is, a children's choir? I just heard it again on an all Christmas music radio station. The voices and harmonies are beautiful.

Isn't this the "Platoon theme"? I think there are multiple recordings available.

No. The music that was in Platoon was Barber's Adagio, and the Emerson String Quartet does an awesome version on an Ives/Barber Cd

It is "Christmas Canon" by Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

I think this is the one:

    CHRISTMAS CANON

    Merry Christmas
    Merry Christmas
    Merry Christmas
    Merry Christmas

    The hope that he brings
    The hope that he brings
    The hope that he brings
    The hope that he brings

    This night
    We pray
    Our lives
    Will show

    This dream
    He had
    Each child
    Still knows

    We are waiting
    We have not forgotten

    On this night
    On this night
    On this very Christmas night

  7. The info you asked for:

    Adagio for Strings, Barber
Performance on "Platoon" sndtk is Georges Delerue, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra
The "definitive" performance of Adagio is by Thomas Schippers, New York Philharmonic; Manhattan Center, Feb. 2 1965; Sony Classical

As for Pachelbel Canon in D major
The "definitive" performance is by Jean-Francois Paillard, Orchestra de Chambre Jean-Francois Pallard; Erato, 1968. There's no chorus for this. Commonly heard as a bridal processional.

Of course, YMMV, but these performances are widely recognized as definitive readings, and are probably the ones you'll most often hear on commercials, in movies, etc.

Ever heard the song played on steel guitar by Buddy Emmons?

But the music in Platoon was 'Adagio For Strings', not the quartet version from which it was taken. In any case, I have the recording you are referring to and i is indeed excellent.

I don't know about the Pachelbel. I've never actually heard any choral version of it.

I also vote for owning a recording of Paillard's version. No voices, but the best musical build I've heard. You feel the harpsicord more than you hear it. It's been released on Erato and RCA.
