Great casting imo. He was Dr. Kevorkian and his Phil Spector was great too. Pacino keeps reaching, unlike his contemporary Mr. DeNiro who, it seems, has given up acting. Kind of a shame, though, that they will be dwelling on the sad tail end of a career that was filled with great accomplishment and downright nobility.

That so called great accomplishment and nobility was happening while he put winning over children's safety. That's not accomplishment and it's definitely not nobility.

Paterno as a blustery, loud-mouthed guy? Doesn't sound right to me...

Al has done some non-blustery roles before, but this does seem like a stretch.

Looking at that picture above, you could give him some silver hair and have him play Charlie Watts next. He is positively grizzled.

Seems like most of Pacino's non-blustery roles were decades ago, but I guess he still can "play it cooler" at times, so I'll try not to prejudge! :)

Frankly, the whole story is pathetic. I grew up a Papa fan. Not too many have fallen so far so late in life. If I have any interest in watching this movie, it's because of Pacino.

I'm sure certain people have already asked the mods to evaporate this thread. That's how good.

Nice casting, but Joe's a supporting player here, unless they want to do a lot of backstory. This movie will rest on the casting of who plays Jerry the monster. A nearly impossible job, I think. Mr. Nice Guy, gladhander, intelligent assistant coach, faithful friend, and evil molestor.

I'm wondering about this, too. If he does it right, this could be an Oscar in the bag.

I'd like to see Steve Carell, who did a great job with a similar(ish) character in Foxcatcher.

the height would be a problem. Jerry is a very large wide guy, intimidating to a kid. John Dupont was a runt. But I don't argue with the core of your statement.

True. I wonder if Tom Hanks could pull it off? That would be interesting to see.

(Technically, even he isn't big enough, but I can't think of any Oscar-worthy linebacker types, at least off the top of my head.)
