Well said. And promoters still run off with dough to this day. And to that, some big stars still shrug and say "oh well". Patsy was truly unique, in any era.

Very interesting. I love the concept of this compilation, although it would have been fun if the songs had been programed in the order in which they were released. I wonder how the sound is...

In a letter written to a friend in late 1961, Patsy claimed she had found and would soon record the follow-up to "Crazy". The song was titled "You're the One", although - a few days later - Hank Cochran would introduce Patsy to "She's Got You". Plans to record "You're the One" were quickly changed...and music history was altered. Here's a clip of Decca artist Bobby Helms singing his version of "You're the One":

Would've been another great duet for the two. Unfortunately, country music didn't embrace the duet craze as early as pop records had, and Patsy just didn't live long enough. Bobby left Decca in 1962, so it still would've been a missed opportunity, alas.

It's time for Patsy to get a complete box set. Her music is selling as well as ever, and if Universal considers her a "priority artist" as some in the industry have intimated, I don't understand what the company is waiting for. A complete box of studio recordings would require 6 CDs, and I've supplied a recommended track list. My hope is that someone associated with Universal reads this and gets a clue.

Yeah. I get the feeling that Universal wants to do it themselves, but I'd prefer sooner rather than later.

Haven't tried yet. The Opry stuff needs to be severely shuffled since there are three known performances of both 'How Can I Face Tomorrow' and 'Crazy Dreams'.

Definitely. This is perfect, the track list you compiled for the live material is extremely well-organized. Depending on how it were released, I'd buy this either as one 12-disc box set (which would be ideal) or even two separate box sets.

Reposting my wish list for three albums of standards by Patsy. The songs were carefully selected to mimic the natural progression of a love affair, from the irrepressible urges of infatuation through to the burning memories of hindsight.

A3 The More I See You
    A4 I Understand
    A5 Maybe You'll Be There
A6 Softly, As I Leave You

    B1 Love Letters
    B2 Don't Blame Me
    B3 A Cottage For Sale
B4 I Fall In Love Too Easily
    B5 That Sunday, That Summer
    B6 Soft As The Starlight

    Detour Ahead
    A1 Sentimental Journey
    A2 Georgia On My Mind
A3 Something To Remember You By
A4 When It's Sleepy Time Down South
    A5 Canadian Sunset
    A6 Detour Ahead

    B1 As Time Goes By
    B2 The Lonesome Road
    B3 Stranger On The Shore
    B4 Just One More Chance
    B5 I Thought About You
    B6 All The Way

    End of a Love Affair
    A1 Answer Me, My Love
A2 The End Of A Love Affair

A6 Blame It On My Youth

    B1 You've Changed
    B2 I Wish I Didn't Love You So

I'm hopeful some of the early Ozark Jubilee performances from '56 and '57 are made available soon. Missouri State University has slowly been restoring and archiving many of the early episodes. Fingers crossed...

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for "Answer Me, My Love". Of course, Nat King Cole recorded the definitive version (only because Patsy never recorded it!) but I absolutely love Joni Mitchell's version recorded in 2000. Some might find it tragic that her bell clear soprano from the early 70s had been, by the turn of the decade, reduced to a nearly unrecognizable contralto due to years of smoking and hard living. However, I actually prefer Joni's voice in the lower register and imagine a Patsy version would have injected the song with a similar new level of bittersweet sentimental sadness.

Fascinating. Is there any further information about this MSU project? Articles, etc? I wonder if ABC will put up a fuss. Maybe they'll unearth some of these appearances:

    January 1956
    April 21, 1956

    Third Season (1956-1957) "Ozark Jubilee"
    February 9, 1957
    March 2, 1957
    June 22, 1957

Fourth Season (1957-1958) "Country Music Jubilee"
    August 24, 1957
    December 7, 1957

    April 19, 1958

Agreed. Joni's Both Sides Now album is divine. Extremely well recorded, also. Very dynamic.

I think I might actually prefer her take on "Answer Me" to Nat's, slightly.

Over the next week or so, I plan on going through my digital music library and assembling playlists based on my proposed track list for the box sets. Suffice it to say, there will be gaps. All of the performances I have included in my track list are known extant, but not all are available...yet? :sigh:

Frustrating that we only hear a few short moments of "Gotta Lot Of Rhythm In My Soul" in the new Patsy Cline documentary.

It is frustrating to know there are plenty of unreleased Patsy Cline video and audio performances out there that are sitting, collecting dust - or giving pleasure to only one or two individuals - instead of being made more readily available in order to attract more fans or provide inspiration to a new generation of musicians. Alas....maybe someday.

Is there really a lot of video unreleased? Any live shows? That would be a crime if being with held. Sad too!
