RIP. I met Paul when the current band played Woodstock, GA a few summers ago. Paul lived close by and sat in for a few tunes.

Great bass player. Loved him on Kansas's Kerry Livgren's first solo disc. Paired with the great Ronnie James Dio on the track "the mask of the great deceiver"! Will be missed.

The first time I saw the Atlanta Rhythm Section was 40 years ago on 8 November 1974.

12 or 13 years ago, Paul Goddard was the first "celebrity" I met online at a music forum. He said the first rock concert he attended was Gene Vincent. That was a good place to start.

    R.I.P.

I was just listening to 'So Into You' last night. This is the third member from ARS' hitmaking years to die in the last few years.

Nice guy and a neighbor of mine when I lived in Norcross, GA in 1977-1978. ARS was on a good run back then. RIP

Paul's bass on Large Time is amazing - a big man with a big azz-kicking sound raised ARS up to the top tier of Southern rockers:

A great memorial would be for AF to license the Champagne Jam album and get it released on SACD.

Always a big fan of ARS from the early days, later success and beyond. First saw Paul playing guitar with the Atlanta band St. John and the Cardinals. The group was lead by drummer Dennis St. John, who later went on to greater fame playing with Neil Diamond. The legendary Emory Gordy, Jr. was the bassist.

Large Time is simply awesome from ALL angles. One of the coolest "guitar" songs and one of the most challenging to play right. Paul was a monster.

And +100 to get AF to do any ARS...don;t matter to me :)

As far as I know I'm not aware of their music, but have heard their name many times and have seen their LP's used almost everywhere I go. Like all musicians that pass away, RIP.

They had Top 40 hits with So Into You, Imaginary Lover and Spooky and are a southern rock band with a very unique sound. Champagne Jam and Rock and Roll Alternative are their biggest selling albums.

RIP, love this band. Such a funky vibe.

And Im writing a request to Marshall to see if AF will try and do Champagne Jam. I cant imagine it being crazy to try and liscense. And it would sell. Great great southern rock album.

Maybe AF could do a GHs even.

Everybody write Marshall see what he can do!

Rock and Roll Alternative would be a great album to license as well.
