The 2cd version? Really, you're being uncharacteristically argumentative on this, my friend. "Super Deluxe" is a moniker that's been used on the big Zep boxes and plenty other similar sets...
Forget Elvis McManus...I'll break my vow of poverty if there's four discs of this stuff... Thanks, gswan
So far, the only release that's had an *officially* labelled 'Super Deluxe Edition' has been Tug of War, whilst the rest have been labelled 'deluxe'. And that was only to differentiate it from the regular 'deluxe edition'.
Just for clarification: Officially, this is the proper terminology: The BIG book type edition of the Archive sets with all the goodies is called "Deluxe edition". The 2-CD set is called "Special edition". The no-longer-issued 1-CD version was the "Regular edition" (but this was released for only the first few of the Archive series; the 1-CD editions have been discontinued).
Sorry, I thought the Deluxe Edition was called the Super Deluxe Edition - my mistake. In any case, the point is that the Ram one had 4 CDs, so why shouldn't the Flowers one have 4 CDs too? It doesn't affect me either way, as these Deluxe Editions are all too expensive for me, but I share the disappointment of those who (IMHO quite rightly) think that for the price being charged, consistency and completeness, the B-sides should be on a physical CD.
I clearly recall the review from Sports Illustrated from guest reviewer Emerson Fittipaldi. "Too much rain and not enough driving"
And the only difference between the Tug of War SDE and the DE is that the SDE contained extra hand numbered pictures (whose hand?) and an acrylic slipcase. It also demanded a higher price tag, and it sold out. But, most importantly, the Tug of War SDE contained no extra music or video content from the DE. For that matter, the SDE didn't even contain an extra book. I'm so glad, aside from the TUG SDE, this series has refrained from that practice. Fingers crossed Rodgers doesn't announce a Flowers SDE with that extra CD, rather than the downloads. I'm sure he won't, but wouldn't that be a kick in the teeth, after I vowed I would be Kicked Around No More. Oh, wait, wrong album.
I think I remember something about "There are a lot of things I'd pay for, but this CD is simply not Divine enough to justify the cost."
They "flew in" (as Paul said) bits and pieces from another performance in case he did not hit the right note. There are also some edits throughout the album.
From the Superdeluxeedtion Week in Review email, full details to be published next week... If you are waiting for anything to change as far as the deluxe edition is concerned, I'll warn you now that you will be disappointed, however via SuperDeluxeEdition your voices have been heard and Scott's personal intervention was significant.
Yes, I'll be curious to read the entire interview, but it doesn't sound like they are going to change their plans. Shame.
In related news, the Paul McCartney Collection CD of Flowers In The Dirt from 1993 with "Flying To My Home", "Loveliest Thing", and "Back On My Feet" as bonus tracks has just TRIPLED in price...
Yea, I think you're right. I ordered a copy of it last week as soon as I found out. Will get the 2CD version for the remastered album tracks!
That's correct. It's not uncommon for new releases to have singles released before release date. The Monkees Good Times had up to 5 songs before release.
And if you're especially interested in getting Back on My Feet on physical CD, DON'T buy the 1993 McCartney Collection remaster. It has a glitch at 0’50” (as McCartney sings “said”) that isn't present on the Once Upon a Long Ago CD single. Admittedly, the latter release is likely to be more difficult/expensive to find and I didn't notice the glitch until someone pointed it out to me (!) but even so, you have been warned.
"Intervention" sounds like some kind of action has been taken. Has there? Like including the downloads with the lesser set? Or is it just lip service?
If I had to guess, he'll have said something like "we'll take note of the comments and bare it in mind for future releases", and that will be it.
