It was a matter of time....when very little is happening at the "Archive Collection"-front there will be new Macca-related subjects coming left and right!

This will be problematic for several McCartney reissues on vinyl as there are no fewer than seven albums which clock in around fifty or more minutes each. The thing is, one (Flowers) has already been re-released as a single LP, and another (Wings Greatest) is about to be re-released as a single LP next month... Paul seems to be more interested in keeping it authentic rather than go the "Springsteen route" of reissuing original single LPs as 2-LP sets. Here are the albums that are on the lengthy side in their vinyl incarnations:

Flowers In The Dirt - 49:16
    Tripping The Live - Highlights - 50:07
    Off The Ground - 50:14
    London Town - 51:05
    Flaming Pie - 53:39
    Wings Greatest - 54:18
    Unplugged - 58:23

That happens if Paul does not release another archive album for years! ;)

To think, that was just randomly playing on the tv when McCartney happened to have his tape recorder out. I highly doubt any of it was planned.

I'm sorry, I meant the single Coming Up. You're right, there is no song called McCartney II. I do like the studio version of Coming Up better than the single version.

In the UK, the studio version WAS the single version. The USA single featured the live version.

Yeah. That's what I meant. :shake:

Although not by design! If you notice, the studio version is actually on the A side, whilst the live one is on the B side with Lunch Box/Odd Sox...

So the B-side became the hit in the USA. Cool!

Yeah, the story is that US radio programmers played the studio version and thought :wtf:, but the flip side had a nifty "normal" sounding Wings tune, so they played that instead. That's why the (US) LP had to have a one-sided 7" single with the live version added, because Columbia knew they'd gets lots of angry letters if people bought the new McCartney album and it didn't contain the "hit" version of the song.

Did any of the UK albums include the one-sided 7"? Anybody know?

Yeah, and imagine if they hadn't put out the live version on the B side. How badly would the single have tanked in the US?

So guys, does anyone have any idea when London Town,
Red Rose Speedway, Wild Life and Back to the Egg will be getting done ala the Mccartney collection series? It seems bizarre that all the earlier stuff has been done except for these ... to me at least.

    Short answer: No.

Long answer: At some point in the future, but we’re not sure when or how, and it mostly depends on when Paul finally decides to finish and release the new studio album, which takes precedence.

We have no idea. It could be next month, next year, or never.

Thanks guys .... I just find the wait to be bizarre, with at least two of those albums being classics ... Maybe he doesn't like them lol
