Yes! This is one of my favorite essays about Paul's 70s work. The writer's description of Let 'Em In makes me laugh every time and yet it's spot-on about the track:

There's a party at Paul McCartney's house. Who's invited? His family, Martin Luther and the Everly Brothers. And they'd better get a shift on — the lulled, loping feel of 'Let 'Em In' suggests that Paul started without them, at lunchtime. One of the vaguest hits of the decade, not so much a song as a faint after-image, 'Let 'Em In' is tenebrous despite itself. An extraordinarily eerie record.

I do think the author resorts to a needlessly harsh tone at times. But that's typical of many music writers who think that -- in praising the work of someone like McCartney who's not in the "cool kids" camp -- they have to almost be cruel at times in order to protect their own street cred.

@Fivebyfive the line about Let ‘Em In being “one of the vaguest hits of the decade” frickin kills me. So painfully accurate

Your bigger point aside, I can't imagine Red Rose Speedway, a #1 album in the US, being lumped in a "lesser known " pile!

Plus, he needs to include an anecdotal story about how he didn't think much of the album, but he encountered a "common man" in some random place, who voiced his appreciation of the album, which made Paul reassess the album. :righton:

Interestingly, that album came out 25 years ago.

    Another missed anniversary... :shh:

As discussed previously that album may [or may not] have been the genesis of [one of] the anecdote.

  11. Yes RRS was a pretty big hit, like it or not.

Then again, just today, Paul and/or his staff tweeted the following photo for "Throwback Thursday" on his official Twitter account:

I remember when we got a Press To Play promotional picture on a #TBT post we thought Press To Play was next. By this time tug/Pipes were on their way out and we had no way of knowing what was on the coming soon cards/.
