Correction: Full album chart is now out.

Overall, Egypt Station is #3 in the UK behind The Greatest Showman soundtrack (our biggest album of the year) and ahead of the new Mamma Mia soundtrack.

    #3 in the vinyl chart.
    #5 on the download chart.
    #44 on the streaming chart.

And #1 on the physical-only chart!

I've been very vocal(!) about Paul's voice on here. Not critical as such, but just observing.

One of the things most pleasing about ES is how he sounds. He voice has actually improved vastly - including his speaking voice - compared to where it was a few years ago. This album is such a pleasure to listen to.

Speaking of medleys, this is fun - Beatles fans Transatlantic mixing up their own medley/suite (Suite Charlotte Pike) with the Abbey Road Side 2 medley.

You Never Give Me Your Money kicks in at about 2' 49*. :)

Like I said in my post "He’s always been creative and forward thinking / moving in whatever area he's working in -- lucky us!"

His pop/rock records from the 70s, 80s and early 90's are most certainly mainstream. That's not a knock, at least to me - I love a lot of it. It's great that you like the ballads. I don't dislike them.

We're on the same happy team maccafan. Peace in the Neighborhood my friend.

I think they mean debut, most of his took weeks to hit #1, of course in the old days it took longer to compile info.

You beat me to this! Meanwhile, on the marketing front, next up in the U.S. is an iHeartMedia radio special tonight.

As for the album itself... Still processing, but feeling more and more like this is an album I admire a lot but will probably listen to a bit less than some of my favorite and most-listened-to Paul albums (for the record, those are, in no special order, MAF, Chaos, Tug of War, Flaming Pie, Run Devil Run, Venus and Mars). Only a handful of songs are, to my ears, instantly accessible in the kind of hum-along way we're so used to with classic Macca tunes like Band on the Run or even Ever Present Past. Some of them require some effort and focus on the part of the listener to really get anything from them -- Despite Repeated Warnings being the most obvious example. That's not really a criticism: Two of my all-time favorite recordings are John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band and the original Broadway cast album of Sweeney Todd. Both are utterly brilliant but just don't work as background music. Once every year or two I pull them out, listen with full attention and am floored, but I don't feel the urge to do that very often.

And I must say that the state of Paul's voice impairs my enjoyment of a few songs, mostly the quieter ones. Hand in Hand, for example, although it doesn't really sound bad, just screams out for Paul's younger, sweeter voice, as does Happy With You. On the other hand, I think I Don't Know works just fine with his current voice.

In any case, I'm glad this album exists and would be really tickled to see it land at #1.

The album has been out for a week now and it has astonished me. It has completely exceeded my expectations and is now one of my favorite Macca albums. It’s a shame we probably have to wait a long time for his next one!

I know, they routinely discount Wings as as "solo", but still... there are both "McCartney" and "Tug of War" that reached no. 1

Well, Wings albums were specifically not marketed as Paul solo albums, so that's appropriate. But this could be solo Paul's first no. 1 debut.

Read closer. The article clearly states his first album to DEBUT at #1...

Edit: i just hope they're right! One of the few times ive seen them disagree was when they announced MAF was #1, and then Billboard came out otherwise...
