Paul McCartney's positive comments about Black Sabbath. How much into that style is he?

    There's a common denominator here...

Well, it's not a bad way to go out, is it?

And I believe it was the lowest common denominator too.

There was a clip on "At Home With The Osbornes" where Ozzy goes into a record store to pick up a copy of "The Beatles In Mono" CD box set (as Ozzy says, that how they should be heard) and the store guy says they no longer have any in stock but decides to give Ozzy his copy.

Maybe Paul likes Ozzy and Black Sabbath, and maybe he doesn't. But I think that if he didn't, we would not be likely to hear about it.

John Bonham was a huge Beatles and Wings fan, as well. I think most great musicians respect one another regardless of genre.

Musicians typically have wider musical tastes than many fans do.

Howard Stern said that to him in an interview around when New came out. Paul's response, "Yes, I'd gladly take that credit."

I wouldn't be surprised if Ozzy did a cover album of Beatles songs.

Well he has always had disparate music tastes. A scan of his songs on beatles albums tells you that. And, what's wrong with finding something to like about a style or band versus something not to like?

I remember watching the Howard Stern TV show in the 90's and they showed Ozzy meeting Paul between their interviews. It seemed to be their first meeting and I thought Paul looked kinda scared.

I saw it too. You are correct. It was their first meeting and Ozzy was in awe.

I'm not surprised. They've been colleagues in the business for 50 years. If they haven't met before then why would there be anything other than mutual admiration and respect. Hell, the fact that Ozzy is still around is reason enough to admire and respect him!

Fortunately, I think it's funny that people would be surprised by this, but then as always with so many Beatles and Heavy Rock fans ( I won't get into whether it's Metal, or Grunge, or Punk, or whatever subgenera it fits) You're either with us or against us. They seem to have little patience for casual fans.

Same here. Paul kind of nervously said something to the effect of [paraphrasing]: "Oh no, you're not letting him in here!"... he was joking, but I think you could tell he felt weird about it. And then when Ozzy was doing his best to explain to Paul how much he and The Beatles were what got him interested in playing music, McCartney was polite and heard him out respectfully and appreciatively -- but he did seem apprehensive). I think the show was actually in 2001.

I think it would be more interesting to hear McCartney do a cover of Into The Void.

The band Mac Sabbath is playing in my area soon. I saw their name & wondered if it was a cross between McCartney and Sabbath (turns out it's Mac as in Big Mac).
