Wellie produced Chairman Of The Board and played with Sir Paul in The Smokin' Mojo Filters so I don't necessarily buy that argument. I'm waiting for his future project with Andy Williams though!

And judging from his heroes, it seemed from New Thing he not only was micking from his soul heroes BUT his own self!:D TSF was a jazzy jam without Talbot's requisite Hammond Organ flourishes and the demo was...well it was pretty good for a so called demo. Much more than a song sketch.......

Again I'm going to back Tom 100% on this mate. Marriott to Weller is soooo much more important than Wacka, Townsend or anyone else.

You know I'm curious, mate. Whose influence do you hear in Into Tomorrow exactly? Is it a Small Faces influence or something more contemporary to its time?

The deathmatch? I smell another thread title coming up: will the real Modfather Please Stand UP? Stevie or PT? I want royalities by the way, you can pay me in circulating discs and DVDs mate! Deal?:D

Paul worships Wing Paul BTW. He said that Paul and Lennon were his favorite authors at one point remember? He uses an Epiphone Casino THAT John and Paul both played. And the greatest shock is that anti-Beatloid
    is defending his Beatles' love!

Also Paul used a Rickenbacker guitar just like Townshend did in his heyday. Never saw Stevie with a Rick, mate. You can deny it all you want BUT Pete was da man to Paul!HAHAHA.....

You're responding to you own post ,eh? It's all good. Once again who was the original Modfather is a great topic for a thread. One of you can do it and of course give me all the credit!

But like I said the Ricks were from The Who ,there's no doubt about that. And I can see Lazy Sunday in Town Called Malice....not!? It's a great topic for someplace else....

I do remember someone calling one of these people The Fraudfather at one time though.....

Wellermania is at its apogee right now. There's a buzz from the new album so that mania is at its relative height.

Butch, I'll give you the initial inspiration was The Beatles and then The Who but the lasting overiding inspiration to me will always be Marriott.

Yes Weller plays Casino's , let be honest that's a cool looking guitar and Marriott doesn't look as cool with guitar in hand. But I've never seen Weller with a mop-top or those awful suits. But I will concede Union Jack - Jackets (vile) and a Military Medal (the face cover) from t'other lot

Has Weller ever published a book about The Who or Marriott?
Has Weller ever co-written a book about Pete Townsend.
Why did Weller avoid meeting Marriott but was happy to meet Macca at Air Studios circa The Gift, "he seemed like an ordinairy bloke, years ago I would have really knocked out by it" (quoted from memory)
Weller / Townsend is well documented.

I'm not dismissing the influence of "early" Who or The Beatles, I just think their influence doesn't have the longevity of Marriotts.

And yep - when I hear Into Tomorrow, I hear much more Small Faces than Beatles or Who.

Oh and don't forget - why was Micky T invited to join TSC?

Weller's other most associated guitars are the Ricks no? I beg to differ on all these points Helio BUT here is a place to discuss this topic in a head to head fashion, rock on mate!:

Guitars are one aspect of the equation, not the solution. And every point you disagree with was a fact not opinion ;)

Helio, there are many facts they can be viewed in a certain way. People view things through a different prism. All I can say that In Paul's case there are things that are obvious about his dislikes and likes and other not so. Remember his ever changing opnion on Bowie? Now he likes the VU,too?

Indeed... that's the thing about "swords" they cut both ways? No? Also Butch what's obvious to both of us, is a little different eh?

Apologies to everyone though for leading the thread off-topic.
